Re-stitching my rear window

Having recently treated my hood to a ‘Renovo’ coating, it decided to eject the plastic window!

The stitching all along the top has given way!

Can anyone recommend someone in the Cambridge area (or further a-field if necessary) who might be able to re-fit the rear window?

Does anyone know if this can be done in situ, or does the whole roof have to come off?

Generally it's roof off to get a good finish. Besides, it is very laborious to stitch by hand in situ and get all the holes to line up, so unlikely to be cheaper due to labour costs.

As a short term fix, clear silicone sealant can be used as an adhesive as it easily peels off afterwards with little damage (unlike actual glue).

Mine cost me £190 in Cheshire.

Job took about 3-4 hours.

There's a trimmer in the Loudwater/High Wycombe area that quoted me around the £180 mark for stitching in a new rear window - trouble is I can't remember his name or number - I'll look it up this evening if nobody else posts it up first.
Being a tight git I sewed it up myself as a temporary measure (about November time last year!).

mine cost 150 quid, returned the same day, from a company called Krych Trimming in Bristol. Great job done too.

I guess Bristol is a little too far, but at least if you booked it you could drop it off am, have a day out in the south west and pick yer car up for the journey home.

AJ's Trimming? He is who I used to get the rear window of the Griff stitched back in. £120 for the job, took 2.5hrs. Cracking job, good lad.

Thanks everyone - there does seem to be a wide range of costs.

David (DJC) - did the roof have to come off? and was that included in the time you quote?

Did me a whole new hood for £500 all in. Someone here think's that's "nuts" but I think it's pretty good and the quality is superb.

My windscreen insurance specifically excludes non glass windows. Check your policy wording.

I had mine done at Hoods Galore near Southend (Essex) for about £150 and claimed on my insurance so it cost £50 to me.

Yes, the roof has to come off. Its not difficult though.

Found a place in Cambridge (via the local MG Owners Club) who will replace the rear window for £150-£160!

I will let you know how I get on.
