Does anyone else have this problem? I quite often polish my TVR and have to give up because the whole car becomes charged up! Not just a little bit you can feel the static radiating about 4 inches from the car. It makes it very hard to polish because the static attracts all the dust you are trying to take off and its not just the one car as the same happens on my cerb and chim! I use autoglym and stockinet at the moment and have to leater the car down after to remove all the dust the static attracts. Is there any way of avoiding this?
I have found that the static effect of dust sticking to the car after cleaning/polishing can be dramatically reduced. By the way, I have also used stockinet, but stopped because of all the bits coming of the cut edges and now I use a cotton (zinc free) cloth which is tighter woven and does not get frayed edges that come off.
The thing I have found that really gets the post polish dust off is a simple wipe over with a fluffy mitt (don't know what else to call it) which is cheap and available from most auto care shops and is m/c washable when the dust builds up on it too much.
It does get the statically charged dust off and if used with Maguires (or similar) detailing spray is even better.
