Gear linkage adjustment

Following recent engine replacement, the gear action on my chimp is a bit lacking. Feels imprecise and graunchy, especially on trying to engage first from neutral, whereas it was previously fine. Conversely, the action for fifth and reverse is probably smoother and easier than before the work... consequently I'm guessing this is down to the linkage rather than anything more involved and wonder how easy it is to fettle up?

There also seems to be some new play in the thing that wasn't evident before... are there seviceable bushes etc there does anyone know?

Assuming the R380 'box uses a similar shift design to the LT77 of the earlier RV8, it is a known problem on the TVR wedges that four rubber bushes that isolate the shift extension from the gearbox (vibration damping) perish with age/heat/leaking transmission oil. This causes the imprecision that you describe. Worst case, the extension hits the propshaft when you pull the stick back for 2nd or 4th!

Quick test: grasp the gearstick and see if it moves up and down (with or without any clonking noises). If it does, it's probably the bushes.
Rimmer Brothers in Lincoln do them, they also do a polyurethane set that should last longer.

Hi mate
I guarentee they have not replaced the sleeve/bush in the linkage,this can easily be mislaid in disasembly in the linkage and not replaced if the repairer is not experienced in these matters.
I'm sure a pro will come along shortly and explain it better,(and more sober)
