Smashed in the Rear
Discussion
Driver that hit me did a hit and run - clocked his plate though and he was subsequently arrested. I then find that he's a disqualified driver.
The dealer that has the car has estimated £8,000 worth of damage!! And there is are no mechanical problems purely body work/maybe exhaust.
I'm a bit worried that the insurance company may try and write this off now. Car is valued IMHO at £14K (95 4HC).
Has anyone had any previous experiences? Suggestions?
Thank you.

Contact the M.I.B. as soon as you can as this person cannot have any insurance. Otherwise you will have a huge claim against your own insurance. the alternative is to sue him/her through small claims court and if this person is of the calibre of the general disqual driver that flouts his ban, he will have nothing for you to sue anyway
Jeez - puts mine into perspective:
Driving home last night when a lunatic in a van was driving inches off my rear. I slowed right down hoping he'd take the hint, but no. Tapped the brake pedal to flash the brake lights and that must have really upset him, as he swerved round undertaking me and sideswiped the front nearside wing.
Pulled up behind him to get insurance details etc, and he started into a tirade of abuse, threatening to kill me etc.
Nice fella....
Oh, and I found a patrol car about a mile further on, and after about 1/2 a mile of flashing and beeping, I managed to get his attention and report the idiot. Of course the last known keeper isn't the current owner, and there are 2 other outstanding calls for the same vehicle, so little chance of claiming on his insurance, but it looks like a few hundred quids worth of damage rather than £8k.
Hopefully I'll pop in and see Joolz later today to get it checked over.

Kurt, I have pictures of mine in exactly the same condition, pillock hit it after I had owned it for only 2 weeks.
Final bill for damage was just under 12K - I paid 18.5K for the car 2 weeks previous, and was concerned they would write it off.
Just make sure you get the chassis checked out on a laser jig as long as that is square you will have no problems, there is nothing of major structural importance behind the diff.
Mail me off-line if you want to talk it through.

'Looking through the local rag and they just seem to get another ban and a fine when caught. Oh ...some of the naughtier ones get community service.
And the fines are small. Makes me sick and angry.'
Yep - the ones the system really likes are you nad me - nice honest folk who give their real name and address when asked, have the correct reg no, have a few £ and pay their fines like good little schoolboys... ching. Justice? My arse.

Yes. Same thing happened to me.
Someone went into the back of my Griffith while I was stationary in a traffic jam. £2K damage (didn't hit very hard). She was nice abou it and game me her details. Only when they drove off did I notice she had changed 1 letter of her no. plate. So I wrote the correct no. plate down. She also gave me an incorrect phone no.
It's currently with the solicitors (it happend nearly 3 months ago). But the owners of the vehicle haven't responded to several threatening letters from the solicitors, and I reckon they won't respond at all, and that they'll probably end up getting away with it. Bloody scum.(There was no damage to their car I don't think).
The reg no. I jotted down turned out to be from the correct type and colour car. ie it was the correct reg no.
Does anyone know what happens (ie how I can get my money back) when this sort of thing happens?
Cheers.

Sorry to hear of your trouble.
This sort of thing makes one want to put on a white sheet, pointy hat, carry a flaming torch and engage in a little judicious tarring and feathering.
On a more practical note...lets you know you should carry a disposable camera in the car. In the event of a problem take photopgraphs of everything and everyone - "for the insurance company".

Kurt, I'm so miserable looking at the pic of your car. That could be mine or anyone's on here .
What a bastard, then you find the c*nt is disqualified.
I hope you are able to sort this out and that this guy is JAILED for this. If you have problems resolving it I hope you know a few dodgy geezers down your local who can meter out some justice for a small fee.
Chin up mate! Not easy I know.

Really sorry to see what happened. A friend of mine was caught in a similar situation a few years ago. He ended up targeting the individual himself 'throught legal channels' as there is no insurance company to contact. He recovered the damages through the court ordering seizure of the scrotes assets and selling enough to cover the repairs. I will try to find out how he did it but the disqualified driver was left without much furniture. I'm sure his wife was pleased!
Bad news Kurt, my Griff got the door ripped off by my neighbour, he was uninsured and now it looks like he can’t get credit for the loan either so my insurance will end up paying for the damage and I’ll lose my NCD, is yours protected? The MIB will only pay for the uninsured loss, i.e. your excess as they say it’s insured on your policy, at least that’s what I’m being told!
Hopefully you can get it sorted soon.
TVR Body Shop said they’d avoid it being written off though. Might be worth giving them a call, they picked the car up the following day and are dealing with the insurance company as well.
