would you say 450BHP would be putting the 4.2 lump under stress and make it unreliable?, i would love that purple cerb but got to try and get rid of the golf fast, unless he wants a part ex, which i guess is very unlikely.

Should be worth around £15k I would have thought.

I doubt it is 450 bhp - more like 360. If I see a tall story in an ad I walk away.
There are plenty of good cerbs for sale on this site. Might even find someone who wants a family car in part ex and the Golf might be what they want. Dont buy cerbs on price but on condition as prime decider.

Spot on, indeed Mr. Melling stated at the recent talk that more than this number is not physically possible.

The dry sump version is 450 bhp

Here is one I found on Ebay! 25K is a bit much! However I would of thought 18K is a good buy!

so what would genuine figures for a standard model be?, perhaps about 330-340 for a 4.2 and 380ish for a 4.5?, i will have roughly 15 or 16k to spend after the golfs gone another thing i would like to do is the newer lightweight headlight conversion and perhaps some spider alloys not long after i buy one, is the first blue cerb worth buying because of the dash coming out of place? is this a major issue or would you say the pic makes it appear more unsightly than it really is?

Have you seen one on the rollers do this?

I hear this a lot, I would love to see a rolling road dyno chart of one!

Not doubting it, but with TVRs, figures have always been inflated in one way or another....

From my understanding the tuscan racers have different heads as well as dry-sumped, its the heads and the wilder cams and the compression ratio plus from the injectors right through to the MBE racing ecu that make the difference, the problems with cerberas have always been the breathing ability of the heads...

Craig (cerber450) has fitted tuscan racer heads and gone dry-sumped + mega NOS, man I cant wait to see to see her at Cream!!!!

a 15 - 16K budget gets you the lower end of cerbs ie older, higher miles, less upgrades, more to do to get it right and likely bigger bills. Can you afford the 3k pa to run it? The headlight conversion can cost anout £1200 I guess (ie parts, fitting and front respray) and spiders are £200 each plus vat plus tyres. You will moreimportantly need to change the suspension to AVOs , Nitrons etc (another grand ish).

So better to extend your budget to 18 - 19k and get one with it all already done.

after going in a Cerb yesterday ive decided it isnt for me, i felt it was a bit claustrphobic(sp?) and i prefer having an open top, really having 15k ish for a TVR then leaves me with 2 options the Chimeara and the Griffith, after going in the Griffith ive decided that this is the one i want as i love the styling and looks.
i can afford the running cost of £3k per year for the Cerb but i belive the Griff is cheaper to run been a Rover V8 and overall a rather basic car.
are there any owners that can give me tips of what to look out for on 1 as i want to start viewing sooner rather than later, also what is the handling like in comparison to the Tuscan and Cerb?

Get yourself onto the Griff part of this site. You'll find plenty of advice.
Generally a griff wont handle as well etc , has a lazy yank engine etc BUT makes up for all that with great point and squeeze, classic lines, V8 warble etc....
Griffs are holding their value well - tend to have increased in price over last couple of yrs.

Sold my 2001 4.5 cerbie for £27K with 12000 miles on it if this helps.....
Power wise TVR state about 420BHP, but it is widely acknowledged no 4.5 has ever made over 400 and in most cases they prob push out between 350 and 390 BHP.
Would recommend drive a few as the power will vary.
Also need to make sure it has had the rear end suspension mod, as early ones can rip of the rear suspension if not looked after or changed.
Make sure you get the child seat as well, there should be one custom recaro kid seat with it, worth having as part of cars original kit.

450bhp - Ooh people can dream - Like someone said even a good RR will maybe make about 400.

Any more and you need a Tuscan race engine - any one doen that knwo you can buy the old stock (no racing any more).

Blue one good as a Donor chassis! for max 10k or maybe max 13 with AJP.
