Cigar lighter dead...

Well, I appear to have my first electrical gremlin in a TVR...

Anyway, car is a 99 Chimaera... and fitted with the fuse box that has 6 + 5 relays (fitted when they were having supplier issues).

Cigar lighter is dead... no power out of it at all (most annoying when looking to use Sat Nav!) and I've checked the Sat Nav does work on another car... so it's not that.

I've checked the fuse (not broken, but replaced anyway) to no avail. It's the 30A job that also feeds heated seats (which I don't have) and heated mirrors (hard to test!).

So any suggestions, or do I have to pull the door card off to check that end...? (well, wait two months till service and get Leven to do it :hehe: ).

Suggestions on a postcard to the usual addresa...

Doesnt the lighter unit pull out, dont think you have to get to teh other side to get it out..oo err

Check with a multimeter that there is a voltage at the fuse terminals.

This happened to mine - there's spade connectors at the bottom of the lighter, they can drop off!

Ah... sounds most likely. Will try BB's suggestion of pulling it out from the top first... really don't fancy pulling the door card off

I don't think there's much in the way of wire to play with to allow you to pull the lighter out and still be able to reconnect the wire (if that's the problem), so IIRC, I pulled the door card away a bit at the bottom, which was just enough to see the problem, then holding the spade connector between two fingers, I was able to push it back on.

Sodding thing worked this afternoon... obviously one of those pain inthe ass intermittent faults...

Same thing with mine today!!
Worked with door open, died when closing door.
Pulled loom into the door a couple of inches, now seems fine, fingers crossed>

The wire between the body and door can break. Mine did. Intermittent at first.

Connectors behind the steering wheel mean that the relevent section of loom can be replaced it required.
