Just found out that a certain court case has gone against me and i am in the mire to the tune of 60K.

At 30 been married for a couple of year's got a decent job as has the wife, never been involved with the law. I pay my tax's but a mistake i made 12 yr's ago is going to change my life irreversibly. Its a shame too because everything was just how i wanted it, beautiful wife, lovely home, great car.

I know that my problems pale to insignificance compared to the real tragedies that we see every day but i only got the verdict today so am feeling a bit melancholy to say the least.

I beleive that there is reason behind the chaos and i hope God grants me the strentgh to accept what has happened and start again, those bastards are not going to take anything away from me except that which i allow them to take.

Apologies to all of you who had a nice day today but just typing this out has made me feel a little better.

Bad luck mate - I havent been at the other end of the law before but a quick scan of PH indicates the very bizzare nature of the courts, law and the police in this country. You win some you loose some - there seems to be little commonality sometimes....

I am lead to understand that you can go to appeal in most circumstances and that you can usually get the costs reduced to a more manageable level - especially if you cant pay. It makes no sense to bankrupt someone just because they lost the case. Good luck and let us know what happens...

Cheers,

Paul

From one who's literally on the threshold of starting on what I hope to be my "Life" with as you say, Great job, beautiful Girl, working towards even better car etc...I have no idea what the court case was, but you have my sympathy.

Sounds all pretty unfair, but not exactly unexpected. If you've got this far once, you can do it again. I'm sure your lady will stand by you, and you can always buy another car later on (you'll really apreciate it again when you do, if you've been railroaded into owning a shed for a while).

Whatever happens now, good luck, and keep which ever is your faith.

Well said DM.

All the best mate - don't give in, prove to them that you're a fighter and that you can do it all over again.

This may seem really sad but i have been sat here since i posted, just waiting to see what you fella's had to say...all i can say is thank you!! It does help to hear someone who is not constrained by the duties of being an officer of the court.

Just to be a little more transparent my 'crime' was one that was dealt with by the civil court so not strictly criminal.
The criminal element was dealt with when I was 18. I was provoked and lost my temper ( unquestionably my fault), i was given community service and it was my first and last encounter with the law. No one apart from (one *anker) suffered anything worse than a broken nose, ribs and wrist.

But when you have rich parents it is not difficult to exact revenge in the civil courts to declare your supposed superiority. I would rather have done time when i was younger than have my life turned upside down now.

I know that i may not be in a position to fully appreciate what being locked up is like but surely being financially crippled in this world in which we live is a far greater sentence.

Chin up, nose to the grindstone and go for it! don't5 let the Ba5tards get you down.

The really annoying thing is that it's being taken off you because you've got it, the scotes that steal our cars and mug our grandparents, who have nothing get off scott free with a slap on wrist and a promise not to do it again
Our society is staked against the hardworking, tax paying, law abiding (most of the time) citizen, just try and roll with it and all the best for the future, you've done it once it can be done again, and hopefully you've got a strong familly and friends (including all us PHer's) to stand by you

one thing you will have to get used to though is being treated like a criminal because you have nothing. Unfortunately money is all in our society (you probably know this because of the revenge taken on you by this person and his parents)and it means you have to be three times as persistant to get what you want. Intelligence and hard work will win through every time....keep us updated

I suppose its too late to put everything you own in your wifes name and then offer to pay what you can afford over say the next 60 years?

Just a thought...

It might help a bit if you could have some say in where the money's going, eg a favoured charity. As it is you know it will just disappear into the moneypit they call the Treasury and be frittered away in about 0.1 seconds.

Sorry it had to happen - is there no way out?

Cheers plotloss,

Am working on various 'wriggling' scenarios at present but there are various changes which were put into effect to supposedly make sure the rich and titled did not manage to put assets out of reach in the event of bankruptcy.

The truth is that this legisaltion only hits one group in the Nads and thats the non landed gentry..IE.. you and me.

But i really feel that (what my 'friend' reffered to earlier) is true.
It is those that have followed the rule book that get shafted, whereas the others have nothing to lose.

Its the losing 'what we have' that instills the fear in us and therefore makes a mockery of the system.
Because if you have nothing to lose WHATS THE FEAR?????

Ah crap – I hate hearing of bad things that happen to good people, and as a number of my learned “friends” have said what doesn’t grind you down only makes you stronger. I’ve learnt over the years that family are the most important thing, if they’re with me nothing else matters.

Be lucky
