Hello All,

I have been looking at a car cover either indoor or outdoor. Although it will mostly be used in the garage.

Can anyone recommend a good car cover that will not scratch the paintwork. I don't want to spend too much on one, but don't want to buy a naff one either.

Any help appreciated.
Cheers guy's and girls.

I bought a standard fit one for my Cerbera from my local motor factors. I think it was 'Large'

I only use it in the garage to stop the dust settling on the body. Does the job perfectly. I couldn't see the need to spend a fortune on a branded one either.

I have been looking myself, there are a few alternatives...one of them came back with a £70 outdoor cover for a Cerb.

We got a custom made one for the Griffith from Coverzone - based in Ilford. Will take me a day or two to dig out the address if you are interested.

I use a couple of HUGE bath towels to cover mine in the garage if its left there for any length of time; am sure bits fall onto it from the ceiling when I start it up!!!

Our TVR dealer has offered to get us one for the Tam so you could enquire at your local dealer.

I've just bought one for my Cerb, and it's fine. Waterproof and breathable. Tried XL, but it was a bit baggy. Changed to L and it fits nice and snug. Should be OK outdoors as well.

I've been using a Classic Additions heavy duty waterproof cover for a year now and can't rate it highly enough

Mine is garaged in a sealed air condition unit complete with dust filtration, i.e. it's left in the car port and used daily

Be carefull with outside covers, I had a custom made one for my cherished Granada Ghia V6 2.9 cost a bunch of money, (couldnt get the car in the garage - too much junk in it).

Anyway lovely cover, cept the cats liked sitting on the roof, and pruning their claws in the material, eventually went through the cover and into the paintwork, dont know if anyone makes a cover which repels cats.....

I've got the Classic additions one, which was handy for when the car got rear ended (water getting into boot via hole)

But beware that they come with a warning, "not to be used on vehicles that have been painted in the last 12 months"

Alright on a well stone chipped car

Thank you all for your help.

Russell M – what Classic Additions cover did you go for?

Nuggs - I`ll see how much the one you have cost, might be the best one.

Big M – I have had a look at cover-zone ones, wasn`t sure if they would scratch the paint or not.

Robertjp – I`ll have a look at these as there are a few I haven't seen before. Thanks a lot.

As ever Pistonheads comes up with the goods, what would we do without this site?

I had a custom made one from Classic Additions for my Escort Cosworth years ago (the big tail spoiler meant standard covers didn't fit it) and they were FABULOUS. The service, the quality of the product; one of those companies where I was so impressed that I wrote a letter to the MD to tell him so. (I rarely do that!).

It cost approx £250 (and that was a few years ago) but was so perfect!

They do many different covers and I'd have no hesitation in going back to them if I were to buy another.

Heavy duty waterproof, size M & I had the cable & lock off them aswell.

Mines a Cerb, but tell them, it's a Chim, they'll know the size.

I've got a Classic addition Heavy duty one for my Griff/S2 when I only had room to garage one...... was excellent for external use..... (I must remove it from my hall way where it has been sitting for the last 3 months.... wonder where to put it)

I am looking for something a bit more light weight for use in the garage though.....

Whatever you go for, you must make sure:

1. It's breathable;

2. You don't put it on a wet car; and

3. The paintwork doesn't have any grit on it (the cover being blown around by the wind could cause the grit to scratch the paintwork - not good!).

I always give mine a very quick run a damp chamois before putting the cover on if it's a bit damp/mucky.

Thanks lads.
I`ll see how much the classic additions one works out, seems like the best bet!
