TVR wins Ten of the Best
Discussion
Straightliners have hosted an event at Elvington airfield in Yorkshire for 23 years called Ten of the Best.
It was always very popular and extremely competitive attracting proper race teams.
In recent years big money teams brought cars such as Nissan GTR’s with multiple thousands of horsepower. time attack specials with ridiculous aerodynamic modifications were also popular.
This year I turned up as I was interested in the Run What Ya Brung side of the event on the Saturday so I could run 1/4 mile drags and 1/2 mile speed tests. An Aerial Atom spilled its guts on the 1/2 mile so I didn’t get a chance to run that on the Saturday as they only cleaned up the mess later.
I asked about running again Sunday and Helen at the signing on said why not enter the full TotB event as it was only another £10. So I thought why not and it would be a bit of a laugh to have a drive around the twisty handling circuit to include all 3 disciplines.
On the 1/4 mile I ran 11.1 at 128, on the half mile I reached 153.6 and I simply drove around the handling circuit carefully not hitting any cones just to qualify and get a time on the board.
I went home a little early not expecting any kind of hope of any trophy.
Imagine my surprise when I checked Facebook to see posts congratulating me on actually winning the full event!
Needs to be said that this year wasn’t as popular as previous and some teams were mainly concentrated on the handling circuit.
Still… 2025 we have a TVR champion

Congratulations. I was there and I saw your car running.
I've been going since 2003 on and off, and I actually went there in my Cerbera back in 2006. I then had a break from going, but I've been going to it since 2018 now though. I couldn't believe how small the event was this year though in comparison to the previous few years.
When I went from 2003 to 2006 it was epic though back then for sure, and the tuned Jap stuff etc back then was immense I thought.
