Will be interesting to see what price it makes. 98 ls1's are a thing I wouldn't touch as they are very different to later models but if cheap it would be a good buy for somebody. Also the ls1 t56 is nowhere near as strong as the viper t56 but it's still a decent box and good for a transplant.

The main differences are with the ecu. It's a bit odd ball as is it's loom. The early engines basically had all the faults which have since been rectified on later products. 98 engines have less efficient cylinder heads, could have ring sealing problems and piston slap. They could have oil consumption problems or oil pump problems. They are easy to identify from the rocker covers. This could be a fine example and it does have a box so if the price is low it would be worth considering.
I imported a 98 engine some years ago. I thought it was low mileage and sold it to a friend. It turned out that the mileage was much higher and it had a rattle in the timing chest. I was quite embarrassed about it. Anyway, a new chain and sprockets and now it runs really well.
