Wheel Balance Mystery
Discussion
Had some work done on the front of the Chim a few days ago. Replacement of a steering control arm and anti-roll bar linkage.
Geometry was all set up properly afterward and the work itself was spot on so no worries there. The indy dealer who did the work is beyond reproach.
Curious thing was the car then acquired a shimmy at 'certain' speeds. Close inspection showed all the weights still in position but I'm curious as to how, when nothing was different apart from some new components, this could appear.
I suppose that as tyres wear they might need rebalancing, could slop in the old components have masked the shimmy before?

This can happen, if there is increased tolarence in direct steering/suspension components, this can soak up indifferances in wheel balancing.
As tyres wear the casings can distort slightly therefore requiring a rebalance, nothing to worry about I'm sure.

That's what I suspected. Rebalance has solved things, I was just surprised that the wheels could have been out of balance yet never transmitted anything to the wheel before the new bits went on.
Ah well, all better.
