I went out in my Chim this morning and found that the rear number plate didn t want to join me to the destination. I can order a replacement easily enough but how reliable is the sticky tape ? The last plate was on for a few years but I m wondering whether to use tape or drill holes and use screw & caps?

Thankfully plod didn’t stop me on the way home.

My Griffs plate has been so affixed for at least 10 years but the sticky tape is along all edges at the back.

You need to clean that area asap and get new plate or thoroughly clean it. Use white spirit or similar, tape needs squeaky clean surfaces

Thanks guys. I send for some of this tape, don’t really fancy drilling holes in the car.

3M VHB tape is very good.

Have also seen a tip of using a lighter on the surface of the tape to heat it up a bit just before application.

On my car, the front plate needs a slight curve to match the bumper, so I heated the plate up and put the matching radius into it before fitting.

Ordered some STASS Xtra thick (3mm) tape from amazon. Pretty good stuff. I did put 5 strips on mind per plate and also ordered more and tripled them up to get over some fixing mugs.
