Hi

I am looking at buying a car new from a dealer - already in stock.

How much discount do you think I should hold out for?

Regards

David

I dont think there is a general rule but here are some pointers;

1. Establish how long the car has been with the dealer. Chances are the longer it has been there the keener they are to get rif. When you factor in he dealer may well have bought the car via a loan/hp and will be paying interest until he sells, you may be able to knock thousands off..

2. Visit other dealers and explore what deals can be done. Return to your chosen dealer/car aimed with the facts. Nothing new here either I suppose.

3. Its Winter so I would expect sales are slowing down and all dealerships have to move stock to pay the bills. This should work in your favour.

4. If you are p/x, ensure you get a good price. I dare say if you are a cash buyer who can hand over the cheque then and there this will give you more room to haggle. Coys make a load of dish from finance so if you sign up to their finance you may get more money off the list price.

I think if you want answer such as you should get £4k off the list you need to a. let us know what you are looking to buy and b. explain the sitn in a bit more detail.

If you look around some of the main dealers, there are a fair amount of new cars whicb are discounted at the mo which is a good base line for you.

Im in the same posn looking for a good deal and there are some excellent bargains to be had.

Hope this helps.
