TVR's anonymous in Europe

Hi All,
I recently went to Holland and Germany on a business trip and got talking about cars.
One guy who i had met in the UK had passed the word around i drove a sports car.
Anyway, quite a few people from both countries asked what car i drove and i said a TVR..
They all had one thing in common.... Their response... TVR? T...V...R? what is it? is it a VCR??? etc etc..
Not one person i spoke to in Holland or Germany had heard of a TVR..
Are they not sold in Europe?? The only good thing i can say is if i take my Chim over the next time i go i can guarantee i'll be very exclusive on the German and Dutch roads!!
Just a word of thought..

correct. Another well observed use of the apostrophe. Sorry, wasn't picking on you, but just about every plural I've seen posted lately has an apostrophe. And I've just spent all day reading and correcting the grammar in a 98 page proposal

Basically, the bulk are sold in the UK although there are small retail outlets in Europe. They remain quite an unknown commodity on the continent.
The German and Dutch press do sometimes print roadtests and information about TVR but its only really genuine car enthusiasts that get to know about them.
I met a Canadian bloke in the Lake District once and he was drooling over the Griffith. I explained that it was a TVR and he looked at me in a strange way. "I know it is" he said, which was quite a suprise!
They are novel though, as our trip to LeMans this year proved. The French love the look and sound of them. To be fair, they probably think TVRs are common in the UK due to the amount that went through France on the way to La Sarthe.

Yeah i think you are right..
From a personal perspective i like the fact that you get quite a nice degree of exclusivity when you are in Europe. Its great to be different!!
Just thinking from a company perspective i think they could do with upping consumer awareness of the brand further than the Kent / Essex coast..
But being a selfish git i'll just appreciate im a bit different when im abroad

We had a belgian reg Griffith turn up at the last C3C meet. We think it was one of the last 100, had bugger all km on it but unfortunately, despite being parked next to 3 Chimaeras and a Griffith, the driver made no attempt to make contact with us. Obviously not a die-hard TVRCC member?

You will be indeed! Our dutch TVR club has under 300 members and that is probably more than 80% of all dutch TVR owners. Altough the chimaera is the most popular TVR here, there is only a small change to see one on the road. The dutch club is great with a lot of real enthusiasts and even organizes one of the biggest TVR events in the World; the tvr continental meeting. You can buy a LHD tuscan and sagaris over here and there is a lot of promotion in magazines, so more and more people know what a TVR is.
