Insurance for second car

I am buying a second car for the winter to go with my Griffith 500. Getting an alfa 156 sportwagen. Privilege will not add a car to my policy or give me credit for the No Claims as it is used on my griff's policy.

Anyone have any recommendations for insurers who are more sympathetic for second cars.

Bell Direct and A-Plan have both been sympathetic to me regarding second cars. (Even if they're both group 20 cars!!)

I'm sure there are plenty of others.

You'd probably be better off insuring the Alfa as your main car and the Griff as a second car on a 'classic' or 'cherished' policy. These types of policies normally insist on a main car also being insured (hence the Griff is the 'second' car) and offer a limited mileage. Costs are far more reasonable than insuring the Griff 'normally'.

Edited to say that if insured as a second car, you won't need any no claims for the Griff - but nor will you earn any.

Just been through the mill on this one myself.

It does depend a great deal on how long you have been driving the Griff. I struggled to get any kind of specialist policy becuase i couldn't 'prove' high performance car experience. I ended up insuring both through independant mainstream insurers, almost all the specialists told me to come back in a year provided i hadn't crashed the Cerb!!!

If you have driven the Griff for more than a year, or could prove equal experience on another car, places like Sunninghill, Mannings and Classicline have good reputations.

I've got my second car insurance through the AA, they matched my full no claims that I have on my other car. Having AA membership helps as you get a good discount for being a member.....

Mannings shadowded my no claims from my main car - insured by someone else - onto the Chim....

I had no problem insuring a second car in addition to my Griff...... I bought an Impreza WRX and now have both insured through Keith Michaels. That said I had good quotes from Sunninghill and Peart for the Griff and numerous were willing to 'mirror' my NCB - I just picked the cheapest ......

Direct Line told me it is not possible to use no claims bonus on more than one car at a time, I even asked if I could split it but this was also not possible. They did, however kindly gave me 1 year free to use on my runabout
