TVR dealer TVR Power is offering a special winter deal on car inspections.

From 3 January 2006 to 31 March 2006, oil and filter change as well as a general inspection report to all its existing and new customers will cost only £29.99 plus VAT.

TVR Power's also announced that it'll be closed over from 24 December 2005 to 2 January 2006. Get your servicing done now, chaps!

Is it a regular thing for TVR to annouce discounts all over the place? There seem to be TVR discounts every week . . . No offence but I don't see this happening at the other performance brands . . .

Free winter checks, seem pretty common to me. Good way to get people through the door, in the quieter months ie pre-xmas/january, on the pretext of winter 'health ' check.

Have seen other manufacturers do it, mainly the more indy/smaller dealers though, ala tvr.

I hear what you say but that is not quite what I mean: TVR's pr is, err, close to non-exsistent. News like the above may seem a bit, well forced maybe. Compared to the other performance brands that have various newsbits all through the seasons that is . . .

It just doesn't feel quite right, but hey: I'm a sensitive guy.

this is TVR simply Power trying to drum up some business whilst the have a bit of capacity. Bothered?

I don't see a problem, they want more business. People on the forum were dissing TVR for being crap at marketing recently (including me). This is a good offer which I may well take up in a few months. I've been considering going to TVR Power for my next service anyway, so a visit for oil/filter might be a good intro for me.

I normally use Power for servicing so probably see more of them than I would like. Very pleasant and frieldly chaps and chapesses though and always been a good experience so far (and the tea isn't bad either) The Chim will be down there in January for an oil change.

If you forget the fact that TVR Power is a sister/child company to TVR Engineering and just consider it as another dealer / indy, then as far as I see there is no issue, just an exercise to get customers in by offering them an enticement.

Dream Machines ran a Saturday open day a little while back to show the Tuscan 2 Conv, doing freebie winter health checks, which as I see if gave them a few key benefits:

• Possible car sales of new vehicle or used stock

• Service customers for any defects found

• People visiting who didn't know where they were and who they were now do, and may return in the future

• A goodwill gesture, having given away cups of coffee and sandwiches always helps your reputation

Regarding the Oil and filter change, can the customer specify what oil goes into their loved oneor will TVR Power put their own choice in? This could be a cheap way of me changing from Castrol RS 10w60 to Mobil 1 0w-40.

I don't see the reasoning behind doing another oil change at winter time anyway, and I don't see the point of a winter check .. surely you make sure the car is ok at it's normal service interval and will last to the next service interval

oil will surely degrade fastest when it's being pushed outside it's upper temp working range, that's likely to be the height of summer i would have thought. Surely a mid-summer oil change would be of greater benefit to the car.?? And why would you need to change the oil more often than the already-frequent TVR schedule?

However having said all that, should you wish an oil change taking place the price is a bargain anyway! and the check gives peace of mind to owners who are naturally anxious/nervous about TVr ownership,

Personally i think it's a good offer,if you dont mind using carlube semi-synth or whatever power use these days.But i do prefer to put better in mine,and the pro-s i use costs a lot more than that,even buying it cheaply from opieoils.I just get my local garage to do my mid year change and it costs me 30 mis labour plus the oil and filter.Like jools suggests,i do mine in june

Having just recently puchased a 97 Chim, this offer seems too good to miss. Being no expert on the marque I may have purchased the car a little blind. Knew basic things to look for with the car but also could have overlooked something. I,m new to this PH thing but got more info from you lot than anywhere else.

Discount?? 6.5 litres (or 8 litres if Speed 6, I believe) of fully sythetic oil, plus an oil filter, plus a sump washer, plus the time to change it (which is a bit of an effort on a Sp6). This is a loss leader... I reckon they'll be looking to make up the loss somewhere else

If you can get away with just the oil change you're laughing.
