Thieves Warning - Watch your TIV !

Last night whilst at home 7.30 p.m., I happened to glance out of an upstairs window and
notice a Porsche Cayenne on the drive, blocking the cerbera in.
As I don't own a Porcsche Cayenne
then I was a bit suspicious, Pretty soon after a guy got out of the back of the car rang the door bell and then ran back in the car.
Very suspicious I thought and rang the Police what happened next shocked even me,
Three guys then got out and began to attack the front door, for a good five minutes they attempted to force entry, but gave up and then began attacking the back door with a spade, at this point I don't mind admitting my pants were brown, the door frame of the door was sounding like it was giving in,and I began to look for something to defend myself with.
At the time I found the dismantled cot, which the new baby had grown out of, however, having decided that to offer them a new cot and a bottle of milk probably wouldn't do it I looked for something more substantial.
By this time the missus had gone hysterical and whilst wanting to join in with the hysterical screaming, I found a nice big lump hammer, fortunately I then think they realised someone was actually in the house and made their escape.
Total time elapsed - maybe ten minutes - felt life a lifetime, surreal waiting for someone to smash your door down and standing there with a lump hammer, time for the police to arrive forty five minutes later - stating they couldn't find the road - off to buy a shotgun - I think so.
Moral of the story - thieves are now going to extreme lenghts to steal your tiv, apparently there appears to be an increase in TVR theft for spares, crime prevention officer states, she had only 'seen a TVR in bits lately'.
Maybe my bad experience I don't know - I just wanted to share this with you - take care of your pride and joy, lets hope this is just a one off - have to convince the missus now that I want to keep the car - is it worth it ?
Jeez - glad to hear you're both OK, can't think how we'd deal with a similar situation, its one thing the car being stolen without you present but physical attacks, especially at your home, like that scare the bejesus out of me.
Hope you don't end up selling the Cerb, but after that experience I could understand if you did.
One thing though, it may not have been an attempt to steal your Cerbera, just an opputunist attack based on the fact they assume you're affluent given the car on the drive.

Don't think this is necessarily an opportunist attack, or one specifically targeting your Tiv. A close fried of mine has twice had his front door knocked down, followed by 3 very nasty character’s entering his house to take the car keys. Once while he and his family were asleep, the second time, they just pushed past him and his daughter, into the living room and then grabbed his keys.
Total loss, 2 BMW X5's, and a lot of faith in the human race. I think these people are just targeting quality vehicles. Take care out there, and if you have a garage, use it.

It took the police about 45 minutes to arrive - apparently they couldn't find the address.
Apparently forty+ cars have been stolen by this method over the last couple of weeks targeting sports and luxury models specifically.
I think clay pidgeon shooting may be on the New Year hobbies list,

Surely, this is a case where a tracker comes into its own, especially as the police were struggling to pull themselves away from a speed camera somewhere.
The police should be supplying trackers FOC to all Tiv owners, then they might have a chance of actually catching some criminals..

In my trade, I've got to see this happening quite a lot & stretching back some six years.
Normally cars, they can do a robbery in, Imperezas etc..
Personally & this wont make you feel any better, I don't think your car falls into their category.
Check to see if your being targeted for another reason, work at a bank, security guard, rumour that you keep lots of money in the house etc etc
People who deal in cash are normally targets aswell, scrapyard owners, fast food vans etc..
That said, I got jacked at gun point for my Cerb

Sheesh! Scary. A similar thing happened to a good friend of mine this week in one of Liverpool's 'not so desirable' areas. He was sitting in the lounge 9.30 at night watching tv with his wife. His two young kids were fast asleep in bed. Three guys aged around 18 entered the house through the front door which was closed but not locked, crept into the kitchen, took house and car keys and stole the family car... All that risk and barefaced cheek for a supercar? No, a five year old Vauxhall Astra. Go figure! Best thing was, my friend (who you would much sooner have as a friend than an enemy!)caught them leaving the house and despite them managing to get into the car and away, he gave chase in a neighbours car, baseball bat in hand. They caught them, 'made them see the error of their ways' and the police now have them in custody. My friend was given a caution for his part (although he said it made him feel better!)and they are hopefully looking at a stretch at her majesty's pleasure.

As mentioned on another thread recently (may have been on the Wedge forum) when calling plod if you mention that you have a gun and that you may be pressed into using it then miraculously this speeds their arrival.

They used to call in "steaming" when the shops got turned over, but I don't think it's picked up a name yet for houses.
If your in a city & tell them you've seen a gun, they'll turn up quick, if your out in the sticks, your local bobby will get thier quicker than the ARV, unless you mention the gun, in which case the local bobby isn't turning up full stop
A pub down the road got turned over during the recent troubles in Handsworth, guns seen, the ARV's were busy & although the police were yards away, there was no way they were coming in this pub empty handed.

im sorry to hear of your experience and i hope your ok, sadly stealing and dis mantling for parts is something that is done, it has been the case with bikes for absolutly ages, they find a decent bike and sell all the bits at discounted prices through breakers or e bay etc, it is a nasty thing and i always worry about it happening to my bike, yet alone when i buy a TVR!!!!!, in reality though how many of us have needed parts for a vechicle and got them cheaper through a breakers or ebay? sadly a lot of us could be un knowingly keeping them in business
as for taking up clay pigeon i wouldnt bother as if you were put in a situation where you had to use your shotgun, no doubt you would be prosecuted for it and they would get away scot free (if they survived)personally i would rather lose my car/bike and claim on the insurance, thats not to say i wouldnt defend myself but i wouldnt consider getting a shotgun.

You need to ask them more questions-thats completely unacceptable. The police have access to all domestic adresses and they have the ability to identify locations
Very sorry to hear of your absolutely horrific ordeal. If these people are going to this extreme then the only place a lump hammer is going to end up if they get in, is in your head. Under circumstances like this I think the law should allow a person to shoot to kill. I'm all for defending your own home but if I was unarmed I think I'd have just given them the keys. Very glad your ok.
Little tip a friend of mine has...
If you're alone in the house (like his mother was at their farm) keep a chainsaw (petrol) handy. No need to use it in anger, but the sound of someone starting one and revving it usually puts the frigtheners on the most determind scum.... especially when it's inside.
If they're battering down the door anyway try cutting a slice through it as a 'taster'.
either that or the old light a can of deoderent trick.
If they're attacking you in your home the scum deserve all they get.
