WHO NEED'S AN LS6!
Discussion
I have just got off the phone to Rob Robertson and he has just finished dynoing my 5.5 Rover engine out of my Griff on the V8D engine dyno and it has produced 398 HP and 438 ftlb of torque!!!!! ,this may drop a bit when its running TVR manifolds, but I have no precats or baffles.
Needless to say I can't wait to get it back in the car and go for a blast. It has one of Robs tophat bored +crossbolted shortblocks using my 500 heads,404solid cam with Group A ajustable rockers and an ACT triple plenum/rangerover airmeter and smooth bore hose and an oilcooler.I'am looking forward to having a run out with jellison in the new year (i've just spoken to him and he did say some thing about a supercharger, but I think his Misses would like some central heating first!).

Get it in the car pronto, and then to SRR - for true comparison - the torque does seem massive - Le mans this years should be a power fest of burner and petrol - me an you 800bhp........
Will take you for a blast as soon as I get my rear damper back from those nice people at Absolutely Shocks (not nice with stiff fronts / leda and my tired std soggy rears)!

What is the prognosis on getting it the car and rolling (setup and - surely will not need running in if getting the full dyno treatment). Be interesting to see the dyno figures with very good exhaust vs SRR chip setup and the crap tvr exhaust.
You will need to get those brakes sorted - lets bleed them properly soon.

A sleeved ls2 will be good but don't forget it already has thinner water jackets and less coolant capacity in the block then other lsx's. The aftermarket sleeves were done to fill the demand for a simple capacity increase. They are also easier to fit then MID wet sleeves which require precision tooling.

[quote=Guillotine]Numbers, numbers...is that all you guys care about?
that and going round in the smallest circle possible!
why not try them out for real?
TVR MonSPA
bet you can't catch me!
BTW Top job Rob / Topsparks! amazing how far the RV8 has come in the last 3yrs. 310-400bhp!
Incredible

It is not steel like yours - so not as many revs (but I doubt that will stop JC heavy right foot).
Dyno and in the car are two different things though!
Will have to keep good distance from James now on as that thing could go in any direction at any time!
Remember these crazy numbers are pretty much the starting point for an LS6 - if the mods JC has done were done to an LS6 you woul be talking the tink end of 500bhp!
JAMES - this should be in MAJOR MODs - not sure how you move thing though!

Your absolutely right jon, in the car he wont see these figrues the manifolds themselves will rob 25ftib across the board!, if cost permits there is definetly no substitute to the ls range of engines, i am looking at one for myself for the bmw, however i do have to prove a point that these old rover thingy,s can still make a cracking engine, and although probably a dying breed in some cases there are still bucket load around that people want tuning, i am not going to divulge exact figures but my personal 5.5 rv8 is getting very close to 100 bhp per litre and the exact figures wont be published untill it makes that and no its not on after market heads etc!!! i know that the development work could have easily paid for 3 ls6 engines but like i say i am a rover fan with a point to prove!! as soon as it makes the 100 bhp per litre mark i WILL be converting to ls engines and if 700 bhp normally aspirated cant be acheived i will hang my tools up get a 9-5 job! ps i dont think i have said it but damn nice conversion you have

Hi Rob
Yeah, I would'nt hang up your boots just yet with the RV8.

I know it is. It works but as said is there to fill a market. The MID in an earlier block is the better product by far but needs much more precision work to install correctly and few can carry out this work to the required standards. This is why the dry sleeves appeal.

Hi Mike,I should start a new topic in the major mods and not highjack,
All I want is a sleeved block that does'nt require evans coolant and associated bullshit.
Am I better off with a LS1/LS6 block then and getting the rotating assembly.
Precision engineering can be be sorted here no probs.
Thought the hot spots were sorted with sleeving the LS2?

Might have to have a word with Mr Robertson as 331 & 385 from just 5ltrs just doesn't sound so good now...
