red light on chim

My neighbour bigblockmark is haveing trouble with his chim, the red charge light comes on when he switches the car off. It goes out when running though,we have changed the 100 fuse and cleaned up the earth straps but still the light comes on. Any clues please.

I had the same problem on a Daimler that I own. It was a back-feed issue to do with the alternator due to me putting the battery wires on the wrong terminals. I had it fixed fairly cheaply. Sorry I can't be more specific. I take it the red light stays on with the iginition off and keys out? That was my problem.

Failed diode in the alternator diode pack. They're available from any decent auto electrician shop.

That was it. Failed Diode! Try and remember that for next time I make the same stupid mistake.
