Bent Wheels

I've got a wheel that has about 5mm (maybe a little more if i ran a DTI over it to meaure t properly) deflection both radially and axially. Is this aceptable or is it to much? I havent actually got a tyre on it at the moment so cant go for a run to see how much vibration it has.

I am no expert but 5mm seems excessive to me

Whilst you may be able to have the wheel balanced and it feel OK (which I had done after running through a 'trench' and pothole) the problem I had was the tyre kept loosing pressure and eventually deflated on a motorway! My local tyre fitter sent the wheel away and had it re rounded etc., and no problems since.

From experience, 5mm sounds like it`ll be outside MOT minimum acceptable deflection. I buckled a Griffith front wheel beyond MOT standards but it was pressed back into shape by a specialist used by my local TVR indies for about a hundred quid - much cheaper than replacing the wheel. Before the repair, it vibrated and ruined the steering feel, as it would, but it`s been fine for a year now.

If it is 5 mm out I would not dream of using it
