Dyno for TVR Power
New toy for engine specialists
With interest in upgrading TVRs at unprecedented levels, TVR Power have bought themselves a rolling road. The new equipment will allow them to fine tune their engine packages and demonstrate the effects of their work in house and directly to customers.
Their new Dynojet 224XLC can measure up to 1,500 horsepower according to TVR Power's website and feature its own weather station to eliminate any variations caused by atmospheric conditions (or operator error!).

How does the weather station correct for operator error? And how often will they calibrate it? Cue endless flurry of hyped power claims
If Dom is the operator then I would say they would be very accurate. He is an engineer at heart not a PR person, I have delt with him alot and have to say he is an honest person, as will be the results.
I was speakikng to him last year he told me it was on its way, and we got talking dyno etc as we were discussing TRUE TVR outputs and what could be achieved, and there were no inflated BHP claims then.
With access to the MBE code for the speed 6, and the MBE mapers for TVR at his disposal, I would think that there could be a good revenue stream here for Power.

Does PH sponsor tvr-power.co.uk? Or do they pay PH?
TVR Power is wholly owned by the factory, ie is TVR, so in the interests of the forum it is very pertinent. Dom was responsible for getting TVR to drop the published bhp figures. Oh and he is on the TVR board too.

.The most respected RR figures seem to come from Surrey RR and Noble motorsport, who both read near identical.Austec read a little higher.Although i've never used them,i often think that Mech Repairs must be the most accurate/honest,as they always read the lowest?I'm sorry but the previous experience based cynic in me says that any TVR dyno is always likely to be on the optomistic side. It'll be interesting to see some comparisons.Has anyone ever done a comparison check on all the popular dyno's in close proximity/similar conditions?FlipFlopGriff said:

Are you sure about this? I thought Wheeler had a big share in TVR Power and that TVR Power was not included in TVR sale to NS?

I can tell you how all the main makes and types of dyno read and how accurate they are. Also how easy it is to map cars on them. (Some of the best tuners in the world pass through my premises and they all have opinions!)
However, Its not the most professional thing to do on a public web forum.
I will however say, I will never trust figs unless they have either been on a Dyno Dynamics road or reputable engine dyno. I also trust the wheel figs on certain MAHA rollers.
Thats not to say there are others which don't also give accurate results.
The mistrust of dynos by the public is entirely the tuning industries fault, so much fiddleing/idiocy has gone on for years that i'm not suprised there is so much debate.
Do dyno figures matter *that* much? Mine has 350 yours has 360 his has 380 my mate got 500 his mate saw 700 mine was measured at lower air pressure yours higher, blah blah blah. There will never be one exact universal measurement and there seems to be as many different ways of measuring as there people prepared to comment on the measurements.
Lets say you take 2 Cerberas down a drag, each a 4.5 with a decent 360 BHP or so, do you think they will both cross a 1/4 mile at the same time? Swap drivers will it be the same?

with decent drivers they'll be to within a couple of tenths of each other or closer, so yeah they'll be the same.
if you find you're not so good a driver then that's when you need the extra bhp
if you find you are a good driver you may also find you'd *like* more bhp .. either way ... more at your disposal is 99.999999% always better.

Mongoose,
I have a Taraka, which made a genuine 320bhp / 340lbft at Holeshpot Racing in Bradford.
