Does anyone have any experience of the above upgrade offered by TVR Power and if so how did it improve the performance and affect the driveability of the car ?. Part of this upgrade is to fit a TP Sports Camshaft - For the engineeringly challenged (Me !), can someone explain how changing the Cam changes performance characteristics. And finally, would I be better off just going for a Mark Admas Re-Map ?.

I had it done to the Griff, and improvement in throttle response and acceleration. Joospeed commented it was a well sorted Griff. Now got used to it and want the Taraka.

My theory of power upgrades is that a good noticeable upgrade has a 'half life' of about 18 months. After that you are going to find you take it for granted and need more power to make it interesting. On that basis you shouldn't be thinking of a Taraka upgrade as the destination, just decide whether that is going to be the next step.

A cam will drastically alter the power curve of an engine, if you tell dom how you like to drive the car he should match the cam to your driving style, its pointless fitting a racey cam if you do lots of town driving as you will be very dissapointed with low down driveabillity.

So how much does power does the Taraka job bring to the table?

I`ve just had this done relatively speaking...252mls ago

Iam happy with the added response in the mid range which is a noticeble improvement and the engine seems to rev more freely than on the standard .The engine noise is also improved .I would therefore endorse this upgrade but as other people have said you may regret not going all the way ,for example the Taraka upgrade. I am abit

The engine does run alot hotter so your cooling sytem needs to be up to scratch

There is some low speed shunt and the idle is lumpy which iam told is common with any cam upgrade but can only be cured completly by fitting a new ECU that manages fuel and ignition something like the omex or emerald chip

I am looking at this but that is another story

Hi Phil .. having much more success with the mapping this morning .. all mapped up to 2600 rpm now .. have worked out the idiosynchracies (sp?) of the MS now .. I think there's a few little tweaks which would make it incredibly easy to map with, there's some neat tricks in there already which really help with mapping on rollers as opposed to on the road .. will hopefully have good news either late today or tomorrow..

Not sure on how much it is but with Taraka about 3k surely this is more more sensible route to 10 - 15% more power - may even get to the original 320bhp this things were supposed to have if you get a good one.

But how can it be drive in drive out (unless the bit in between is not counted!) the cam swap is not going to be done 'Wjile you wait'?! Or may be it is - mine took a good while to get replaced - not at Power though.

I guess they mean you drive the car there, leave it with them for a day or so and then drive it home, as opposed to some trade services who only supply the parts or expect you to take the engine out etc for them.

ps after thinking about what i have just said sounds like i am selling taraka stuff for mine! not the case at all, a customer has had a taraka upgrade but wanted more so i have sold him a bigger engine which the taraka is not suited too IMHO

Joolz, Can the megasquirt control ignition as well as fuel?

Hi, if you go for the V3 board you get it all in one, so yup it's a complete ecu for fuel and ignition .. sadly time has run out for my playing, trying to trace a signal noise issue on the throttle pot at high rpm .. and paying the bills got in the way so MS playtime over until next week. boo

From my couple of hours of trawling that site - what I can't understand is why they don't :

Create a basic mapping

then using lamba exhaust probes - re-mapp on the fly
within allowable values using the returned values from the lamba probes.

(Am I describing GEMMS)

Don't now about VEMS, but you can do a similar thing in MSquirt .. you run some software that suggests new fuel map values based on the fuel map you have at the moment and the signal generated from the lambda sensor, it doesn't actually update the map in real time (ie it's not true self-learn as far as i know) but suggests new values. Apparently after 4 or 5 drives down the road you cna get it pretty damn close...
