The insurance will to take that ban into consideration for five years from conviction date.

I had a lengthy ban & on getting my license back, I bought an £80 Metro. I insured this 3rd party fire & theft, the insurance cost me about £1000. On the policy it allowed me to drive another vehicle not belonging to me, on a third party only basis. Luckily my Dad bought in his name (registered keeper)A TVR & insured it (£600), I then borrowed it off him.

Obviously if I ever smashed it up (my fault) the Tiv wouldl'nt have been covered, but the other person would have been, so it was all legal.

I drove quite carefully for those two years, never did get chane to drive that Metro though.

Speak to Hoover, he's got a DD conviction and runs a 4.3 Griff. Not sure if he had it right after the end of the ban though.

Hoover.

Cheers Zippe ..... nope I'm a big boy and accept I done wrong a paid/still paying my penanace.

I was banned for 18 months..... luckily for me as soon as I got my lisence back I had a brand new shiny Mazda 6 waiting for me, no issues with insurance as company car.

About 4 months latter I ventured into Tivs ... firstly an s2 and now my Griff.... I choose wisely on getting the age of the cars right so they qualify as classics, run as second cars on limited mileage........ this years renewal on the Griff is £550, a bargain price IMHO looking at what other people pay.... but I'm still going to have a shop around.

Generally you will find that your penalised by 100 - 200% on your premium for a DD, and this will apply for the next 5 or 7 years, can't remember which.

Basically its the penality paid for being stupid/reckless.........

Hi- your pal could try privilege/motorquote direct / direct choice / badboy insurance/
dna insurance/ budget

If he has any ncd from before the ban this should still be valid as it remains acceptable for 2 yrs after cancellation of a policy.

Not sure it is entirely legal, insurance companies are pretty hot on this and if they can prove you were using the other car (in this case the Tiv) more than your insured car they would be within their rights to refuse to pay, leaving you in a big pile of the proverbial. And TBH people who avoid paying insurance with tricks like this make me sick. Why should uninsured or dodgily insured drivers get away with it?
