April 23rd Longcross, Surrey Sutton and Cheam MC - Handling/Sprint Course(*)
Longcross is a hoot - it uses Qinetiq's Alpine handling course. I'd recommend getting some competition insurance, though. There's precious little runoff and bleeding great big trees in 'the Snake'. It'd certainly be interesting to see how the Chimvette (or is it a Cormera?) goes! (The Speed Championship is handicapped on power-to-weight ratio, BTW).

Would not want to insure car for Sprinting. Way to much (from what I have been told / per mile driven and entry fee (partly why I race)). Large Trees and no run off is not a great combo. Might have to have a look at some of the other dates to see if a more open type event / location. (Did a Sprint in late 80's in TR in pissing rain - never seen the likes of it since! - but at Colerne Airfiled peritracks so loads of run off and we needed it - everyone spinning like tops!)

God I must sound like a right POOF. But I just want a blast somewhere that has track or aerodrome levels of run off. If I was doing the championship it would be different - the mind set would be different. And as racing in a very competive race series this year (www.thoroughbredsportscars.com/) on a limited budget (getting married in Sept) I am not going to spank the Purple Monster!
Maybe I should do it in the MINI!? Autotesting does rule......

I pay £150/event for £15K's worth. I only insure for 3 or 4 events per year, but Longcross is definitely one of them. You can save money by getting less cover - competition insurance isn't "pro-rata'd" like road insurance.

Sadly, North Weald has been cancelled, apparently because Epping Forest Council would rather have car boot sales than evil baby-killing car worshippers.

Blimey, Prescott's narrow, windey and well-Armco'd. And overcook it on Semicircle and you're going to slide backwards back down the hill into the paddock...

I don't bother with insurance there - there's only one bend where if you over-cook it, you're going to become intimate with a shipping container, otherwise it's mostly airfield.

What you want is the Abingdon CAR-nival event on 10th June. There are two sprint events in one, and you get a convoy run, 2 practise runs and two timed on each, so 10 runs in one day, and it's on an airfield, so nothing to hit (Steve Heath managed a 360 degree spin across the finish line of one on 2004), although the circuits are not that challenging. Spectating is good, too - the trouble with many of the events (and Longcross is particularly bad in this respect) is that you can't see much of the event. And the weather's been cracking the last 2 years, although I can't promise anything!
Alternatively, Lydden's a goody as long as you take care on the right-hander at the bottom of the hill.

Have fun this year guys! - pulled out of TVR sprinting to save up to go circuit racing. Will now be competing around various ciruits in the Fiat Challenge (www.fiatracing.com). Less speed but 15 - 20 nutters all going for the same bit of tarmac sounded like fun!!!!
