Hello,
Happy xmas to all

My Fiancee has bought me a a rather cool kenwood CD/MP3 player for my Chim, ( which still has the original factory fitted radio cassette player).
What worries me though, is the fact that when she purchased the CD player, Halfords fit it free of charge. When the guys asked her what car it was, they said they're not sure they can fit it, as the last TVR they fitted a player to they ruined all the electrical system!, they said the car was a write off, causing 40Ks worth of damage!!!
With that in mind, can anyone recommend somewhere in the Gloucester area who are capable of insatlling the CD player without upsetting the seemingly delicate electrical system of the car? I would really love to have the CD player installed in my Chim, but at the same time, I still want to continue enjoying driving it!!

Thank you

Chris

is worcester too far for you? mobile audio in worcester has done several TVR's, bentleys, mercs, bmws etc. there very specialist, and well priced. it will cost you something, but peace of mind isnt free.
- do all my cars, inc TVR chim, and an audi S4.

actually if your happy to pay, I believe rob, the owner, will do house calls, but I guess that will be reflected in the price.

dont let halfords touch it.

i have heard similar stories etc.
they are fine when it is a vectra or a mondeo, but thats it.

incidently, i thought halfords had a list of cars they were not alowed to touch ...

porsche
RR
Bently
TVR
Rarri ...

anyone confirm this ?

Halfords fitted a CD tuner to my S3 when I had it. They managed to short out the indicator column stalk, forget to wire the memory function and leave the clock and interior light not working. They also made a right bodge of the connections - Total muppets.

Why not fit it yourself, then you know its been done carefully.

Thanks guys,
i have just rang mobile audio S2ooz, i am taking the Chim up to Worcester next Tuesday for them to have a look at it. Even they are not sure they can fit it!! They said the later the model (mine's a 98), the harder it is, as once the radio is fitted in the factory, thats it!!!! not good!! Please don't tell me I am stuck with the cassette player for all time!!
I won't even bother ringing Halfords to fit it, I don't trust them anyway, the last car I had serviced there a few years back (Ford escort!!) was a disater. I only wanted the anti roll bar seals changed, but they insisted my suspension was shot, so nearly £600 later, I picked up my car and guess what, anti roll bar seals not changed and car drove as before!!!! Left a very bad taste in my mouth since!

In case Mobile Audio cannot fit my CD tuner, can anyone recommend anywhere else? surely there must be someone out there who have had their CD changed on their Chim!!

Cheers

Chris

You could try Optima on 01582 417670 ( i work for them ) most modern cars are easy to fit stereos to now as they have an ISO connector which is universal and nearly all cars have them (apart from ford ) so its just a case of unplugging the old unit change the cage over and plug in the new system

An ISO connector in a Chimp! LMAO! If it's like my Griff (& it probably is) it will have an elcheapo multi bullet connector with the head unit fly leads attached to it. Just cut these off & crimp on the new harness (if supplied - might not be with an ISO unit).

If its 98 it should have ISO ? Do TVR make there own looms then ? if they had any sense they would have put one in for the sake of the chimps at halfrauds the whole idea of the iso is that you dont have to hack the wires and try to cause an electrical fault when installing a new head unit , if it does have bullit connectors get them to fit an iso when they install the new unit to make future replacement easier

have just had my new CD tuner installed!! Cost under £25 at a local specialist centre. It did indeed have an ISO connection, the guy said it was just a case of unplugging the one and plugging in the new one! I am so relieved, my other half said I was shaking when we waited for the unit to be installed!! lol.
We noticed a few 'boy racer' types there, loooking at the unfeasably large speaker thingies in the showroom, they all went outside when they heard the Chim fire up!!! I think I'll always prefer the V8 bassline to a 1.4/8 with large speakers!!
Thanks for all your suggestions guys, I appreciate it, now,, where can I put all my CDs in the car!!!

Once again I'll confess that in a previous life I worked for Halfords. Installed many stereos in my time there (back in the days when we weren't supposed to). Funnily enough, I only ever did them for women...

Whilst installing a stereo is childs play, some of my colleagues had difficulty remembering how to breathe, let alone some of the more advanced brain functions such as talking and walking. I would advise that you find someone lese to do it - although 'tar with the same brush etc. etc.'

Chris, you can get quite a few cd's in the cubby-holes behind the seats. Or in the glove box ha!

I fitted a clarion to my '99 chim just before christmas. Car came with an iso connector and the job took all of 10 minutes including removing the old cage and fitting the new.
