got my copy of sprint yesterday and read the swldn/nw kent column by nick.. full report as always ... but i'm left wondering, i'm a member obviously, have had a little rant before about driving and stuff, been to a meet and done very little driving, (journey there excluded, thanks stace that was fun!) WAS assured more happened usually... etc not just a lot of drink driving and caining through quiet villages... so heres my point and believe me i'm not having a go, i want involvement.. how the hell do i get involved? a track day at brands, when did that happen? how did people find out, or is it a rather exclusive thing? at the meet i talked to mr 111s about my joy of a track day... the chance to do another with more tvrs would be awesome in fact i even displayed my enthusaisum to ncs.. so boys (and girls) whats the deal? nothing was mentioned at that meet i came to... go karting i'm up for it,but apparently almost to late already? and i couldn't make march's meet cause i was working... so what is the secret handshake?

Firstly Hi m8, I'm in Kent, down towards the coast @ Ashford.
I have been to Nicks meetings, once or twice, but not recently, as I always seem to remember the day after, or the cars off the road, you know the normal TVR things. In fact I was meant to meet Nick and Co. to go to Brands and watch the Nobles, but this time my son was unwell so was unable to make it.
I have been on track at Brands a couple of times, in fact I should have been there on the 27th, but a small fire scuppered that, but I'll be back in April.
In answer to your question is look around you, PH is an excellent source of information, letting you know about track days and runs, I read your last posting about organising a run, and TBH that's water under the bridge and less said about that the better. The TVRCC run exclusive TVR track days and I see they've got a few on this year at various circuits, from Snetterton to Cadwell and Brands.
I book myself into track days and if there are some other TVR nuts there then it's a bonus, I have met some great people doing just that. Mark and Tracey to name but two (Mr & Mrs Mad Mark), I go to track days for my own benefit.
I met Olly yesterday, for the first time and a very nice chap he is too, and that was only due to both of us posting on here. He's only 10 mins down the road so no excuse not to pop in really.
Get out there, meet people and you never know you might find yourself more involved than you ever expected.

I attended CREAM last year, and an excellent event it was too, but guess what I didn't really get to talk to anyone as I was way to busy having fun blatting around Elvington.
As for the Essex area, yes I agree they are very well organised but it really depends what you want, from personal experience I'd say that i enjoyed the run up to Essex far more then the end location, a Golf club for lunch is not my idea of fun, but it is each to their own, and I would say that, being a killjoy, a group of TVRs blatting along the M'way at speeds well in excess of the speed limit, while excellent fun, is asking for trouble. How many tickets have your guys amassed on your outings Nick? But that won't stop me joining one of Nicks runs again.

i hear ya but hey, the very short run we went on did have us running through very quiet villages (30's) at well over 50, but when the road opened up the speed stayed the same! i had been to brands the previous day mind! and i met some lovely tvr owners, who intrestingly enough were not tvrcc members, but were up for driving... pattern developing... went to essex once did'nt go on the drive, just popped into the car park, i was with someone else you see..
i don't know, i just never thought it'd be this hard.. i'm driving mine daily, its fun on these icy mornings the backs out all the time.. and i go on big drives EVERY weekend, the miles are really clocking up on my car, and its probably depreciating just as fast...but i brought it TO DRIVE IT! is this view not shared?

I agree there is a time and place for speed, and I'm inclined to agree, villages should be treated with respect, I live in a small village so I know how annoying it can be.

I think we need to get a few things straight here...
You came to a meet in the middle of winter - the roads were soaking wet & very slippery - do you think Im going to lead a convoy at breakneck speed in those conditions?
We were also pushed for time & I told you that we would normally take a much longer & different route to our second venue - if you recall we had to wait about half an hour for you to finish your lunch!! We did this quite willingly at your request.
Did you join our egroup yet? I certainly mentioned it to you & asked you to send me an email so I could get you on board. We use the egroup to keep the 220 local users in touch with each other to arrange meets etc - if you havent applied then you wont have seen any of the up & coming events that we are working on.
Yes we are go karting in a couple of weeks, have you contacted me about it? No - it was discussed at some length at the meet - its an event we have been pushing really hard but I need you to tell me you want to come - dont expect us to chase individuals who havent bothered to get in touch.
We are known as one of the busiest regions in the UK, & we welcome both owners & fans of the marque with open arms. Its not a 'closed shop' as you call it & never will be in my time as an RO.

Obviously with the number of cars around they sometimes end up as more of a procession if everyone has to group together to find somewhere (as I recall Nick arrives an hour late to meet some of us at the Little Brown Jug on the day you mention as he was waiting for you to eat, so a spirited drive was not on the cards), but we've had some fantastic blats and our drives down to Le Mans go down as some of the most memorable drives ever. You'll often find come 3pm groups of 3 or 4 cars split off to enjoy the drive home, the long way around - that's what it's all about.
If you've spoekn to anyone in our group at length they'd have mentioned our eGroup, which is our hub of communications, you'll see what we're getting up to if you're a member of that.
The Noble track day at Brands was announced by most TVRCC regions on their eGroups, on the TVRCC website and probably here on PH too (I may be wrong on that score), how much more public do you need, a personal invite through your letterbox?
The clubs Snetterton track day is on Monday 24th April, the booking form is available in this months Sprint. I'm organsing a convoy up there those of us going on Nick's behalf, details will be on our eGroup nearer the time.
Brands Hatch is happening later this year, full details to be announced, but see Sprint in the next few months for those when everything is confirmed.
You're a bit late for karting event this month as our deadline for booking was last Friday (all well announced at meets and on the eGroup), but there are ways and means
If you'd like to organise a place for yourself (or a team of friends) please send me a PM and I can go through the possible options available. But get on the eGroup for gods sake, Lake has been in contact and can put you on it - then you'll see what's going on, be able to join impromptu drives, see what events are happening etc.

For me it's Nicks drive and enthusiasm for the club and TVR that has changed a lot of things for me, having two children it's not always possible to join some of the events, but he has often found spare seats in others cars so we join a 'run' out. Even when 'life' has presented more pressures than most of us would wish for, Nick still finds the time a) to appologies for not attending and b) hands over the reigns to Lake or Tripps
In addition it was his passion that provoked me into joining the TVRcc committee - and Nick being Nick not content with just attending the AGM this Saturday hatches a plan for a run up to a hotel and no doubt a superb run back.
We are also looking forward to having a bit of a blatt to Le Mans, although we aren't actually able to attened Le Mans, once again, Nicks drive to organise a run out just because we can means we will be enjoying a blatt through some of Frances greatest roads.
It was no surpise that Nick was awarded RO of the year last year he runs a great region and he never complains - I for one would like to say Thanks Nick and here's to you and yours.

...your post was a bit below the belt on a public forum mate..... Much better to have emailed Nick first
and explained your thoughts and asked your questions. Nick well deserved the RO award as he took his region from 3 TVRs to what is now a 'packed to bursting' car park at the Rose & Crown in a relatively short time too.
That takes commitement and effort, something our Nick has in abundance.

comments on Mid Essex organisation, but Nick runs the same sort of regime.....only I do mine through newsletters and he has an egroup. Once you are on there...all will be resolved ...as it so easily could have been if you have dropped him a mail first.
I'm sure that you will soon be embroiled in all their activities as they are a very busy region and we don't get to see them at Mid Essex as much as we used to because there are just not enough hours in the warmer months.
The SEL/NWK bunch are a great region and good mates as I'm sure you'll come to discover

have to agree with the posts above - not really the kind of post to warm people to you and i can understand while nick feels annoyed. I help out with the kent lotus guys and if someone posted the same kind of post on an open forum i would have been annoyed too. from direct experience i know exactly how much time and effort goes into just planning a simple event so to have posts like this really do kick you in the balls and make you wonder why you bother.
There is an egroup which is free to join and allows the whole group to talk to each other informing them of what's going on plus allows you to talk to anyone in the group about anything.
Did you ask Nick or anyone else what's the best way to be kept up to date?
If i rememeber that day and please correct me if i'm wrong but after the run to the second pub you and your partner shot off and did not even come into the pub.... this is fine but had you had time to pop in it would have been a great time to get more involved imo and ask a few questions..
i really dont understand you mate? you try and set up a meet with no feedback from anyone then you post on here slagging off those who did not turn up - polishing exhausts pipes on a sunday or something? then you attend a meet and again in my opinion you were made to feel welcome and included then you shot off after that run then post on here rather then asking a few subtle questions before hand about events and how to get involved?
the group is established and there is a lot going on. not every event appeals to everyone but get yourself on the egroup and get involved that way rather then posting the kind of post you did...

We have been to a few of Nick's meets and I have found everyone friendly and welcoming. We went on Sunday and it was a great day out
