How big and heavy is a Rover V8 compared to the AJP8?

In short, could the running gear of a Griffmaera be fitted on a Cerbera?

(Why? errr...Just to get the "real" V8 sound Mr Wheeler...)

I do believe the Rover V8 is too wide to fit into the Cerbera chassis. I don't know how heavy the Rover unit is but the AJP8 is quoted at 120kg.

Despite the different engine sizes, I believe that it is possible to re-engine a Cerbera with a Rover V8 as a collegue of mine is trying to source a engineless Cerbera (without much success) to do exactly that. The guys a Penninsula in Devon are hoping to make it happen for him if a car can be found and using a top spec 4.6L Rover lump

Thom, if you had ever driven a Griff/Chim and then a Cerb with an AJP engine, you would never, ever, ever consider doing what you suggest... A cerbera with a poxy 275bhp (if you are lucky) would drive like a bag of shit. With a sports exhaust fitted the AJP engine sounds better than any Rover V8 I have ever heard or owned. (and remember I had a pre-cat Griff)
By the way,I had the pleasure of hearing the new T350C revved up today and it sounds bloody awesome!!

Flasher,
I have driven no TVR to date and obviously I wouldn't put a Rover V8 in a Cerb "only" for the sound it does

I doubt TVR will sell significantly enough cars abroad unless a suited amount of dealerships follow.

In other words, why would I bother own a car with an engine which can't be rebuilt elsewhere than in Blackpool and maintained by British mechanics "in the know"?
I wouldn't even think of opening the engine myself if the mechanical knowledge was copyrighted by the British folks, which it seems to be.

Well, my point is:
Even it was designed by Buick, the Rover V8 is built in the UK.

Some how the sound of a cerb doesnt really do it for me. It sounds a bit pansy in comparison to a griff or a chim

Not with a sports exhaust fitted. My Cerb was miles louder than my pre-cat Griff and that is saying something. The cerb popped and banged and spat flames out the back, it was so loud that the neighbours were delighted when I sold it!! It didn't have that wonderful V8 burble, but it compensated by sounding like several superbikes together...

Rover V8's do sound lovely, but at the end of the day they are a thing of the past now and unless you are either a) lucky enough to have one that gives you decent performance (most are underpowered) or b) get one highly tuned, they are nowhere near as powerful as TVR's own engines.

Even the Griff 500 only produces around 280bhp unless you get Mark Adams to give it a tweaking...

Yeah, granted no griff or chim will match the cerb for performance and as you rightly say the rover V8 is a bit long in the tooth, but then again engine longevity is not a cerb strong point. And in my honest opinion no amount of upgrades will make the cerb sound as good as a rover V8.Now a cerb with a 4.2 jaguar V8 mmmmmm.Right im off.

With supercharger I presume?

Edited to add, I think the Rover is about 160kg with ancillaries.

Things of the past...
- empty roads
- unrestricted speeds

I meant that the V8 will soon be a bit of TVR history. We all love the burbling noise and the low down torque but it's past it's sell by date performace wise no matter how nostalgic we get about it. Sad but true. I always wondered why TVR didn't make their own V8 and make it similar to the Rover lump, or even fit the AJP V8 to all it's cars rather than the Speed six. However, the S6 is more driveable and if the noise of the T350 I heard started up a couple of days ago at TMS is anything to go by then they have finally made it sound like a "real" TVR!

Sure Flasher, actually I didn't mean you were wrong.
It is just that not all "things from the past" should be buried...
