Bought an oil filter and sump plug washer this morning ready for when I do the oil on the Chim. Thought to save time I'd go to the local Landy dealer. Not wanting to get too in depth with details I asked for some parts for a 'Rover V8', the first young lady on the Service desk tried sending me to a Rover dealer, then with a litle convincing she got someone from parts who tried sending me to a Rover garage again, I explained some more that it is the same engine as in your Disco's and Rangeys, she then got another person from parts who tried to tell me my TVR actually had an AJP, considerate of him to check but I do know my car reasonably well and don't look too ignorant! Finanally a mechanic from the workshop came in and casually told the parts guy, yeah he wants one of these filters and give him both of these washers as I'm not what sump it has.

After all that I went on to B&Q and got some cheap Thomson's waterseal for the hood, and then set of a car alarm in town in the multistory

Eventually a successfull day!

...only the one?

Sounds like just a 5 pointer me.

At uni, MJS and used I to make sport of setting off whole streets of car almarms. Sunday evenings were best the for points , with our slightly noisey Minis

Didn't impress the neighbours much though. One time Fred ended up with a large baking potatoe shoved rudely up her b-hind. Took quite a while to work out while she wouldn't start.

Apparently I've grown up since then...

I cut my teeth on this sort of thing. I used to stroll into University Motors in Hanwell and ask for (say) a Head Gasket for an Austin Cambridge 1588cc. If I said it was for an MGA 1600 they'd say "Oh we don't do MG bits, try Toulmins in Brentford" but it's the same engine "Yes but we don't sell MG parts here" etc. etc. So it was easier to swallow my pride and pretend I had an Austin Cambridge! Can you imagine the ignomy of it! Rich...
