At the risk of looking like an idiot, can someone explain to me the 'Triumph TVR' thing? It's not the 1st time I've mentioned TVR and someone has said "oh yeah, Triumph TVR".
Obviously the original TVRs where collections of various other manufacturers' bits but, when they started into 'volume' production was there ever a close relationship, or any relationship, with Triumph? If they were closely related (in terms of parts used) to any particular manufacturer in the early days surely it was Ford more than anyone else, then Rover of course. What's the Triumph association all about?
I'm waiting now for a string of replies along the lines of "what about such and such a range of cars that were full of Triumph bits, don't you know anything? etc . . )

I think they get confused between "TVR" and "TR4", "TR5", TR6" etc. It's an easy mistake to make (if you're daft).

Halfords is an absolutely classic waste of time (unless you're shopping for a sponge/ wash and wax as a quick fix Christmas pressie). I used to have a Clan Crusader (Hillman Imp based) and went into Halfords looking for a cam-box gasket (more in hope than expectation). When I got to the parts desk I explained that I was looking for a part for a Hillman Imp.
"Hillman?, what's that?"
Ok I said, try Sunbeam.
"Nope, nothing."
just a vacant stare from behind the desk as if I was talking about a car built in tiny number before world war one. muppets!
The thing is, there's no flexibility. If you own a parts-bin car you expect locating parts to be a bit of a problem but my Dad went into Halfords for a bit for his TVR and the guy behind the desk was insistent that he give him the make and model. The guy had never heard of TVR and looked at my Dad as if he was daft for asking. TVR is specialist but pretty famous - this was Halfords - supposedly car specialists - not Marks and Spencer (where a lack of TVR knowledge would be frustrating but understandable.
In contrast, a couple of our local motor factors are fantastic. Back to the cam box gasket story, I phoned our local place (again more in hope than expectation).
"Have you got a cam-box gasket for a Hillman Imp".
The reply was superb - "Is that the one in a T shape with xx holes round the edge".
I was slightly bemused: "er... yes"
"yep - I'm looking at one now - £1.50." I nearly dropped the phone.
In a smilar way my Dad neeeded a new battery for his Granada/Capri engined 3000S. He went to our local car parts place and said he needed a battery, wittering on about it not beiong for a Capri or a Granada but something like that would do. Again the guy behind the desk was insistent that he told him exactly what it was for.
"A TVR"
"yep, what model?"
"3000S"
Not only was it listed - they had one in stock. Halfords doesn't come close

Sorry, have to disagree with you there.
Via Chrissy pressies within the family, Halfords provided me with the coolest TVR Key Fob in the universe AND a TVR swiss-army-knife-like multitool.
Very impressive (if you don'y get out much !)
