Been watching pistonheads for years and only finally decided to register due to recent TVR developments.

Anyway, after owning a brand new seriously problematic T350C (S6!!), the time has come for me to buy a new car. I so, so desperately wanted to get a Sagaris, but with everything going on at TVR at the minute and the fact that car will be doing about 30k a year - some of it London traffic, I've been a traitor and ended up getting a new 911.

The drive home from the dealership was good and I felt happy that I had made the right choice, but now I am sitting here with such a feeling of guilt, almost like cheating on the missus or something (not that I would know).

Should I try to seek redemption by getting an old Wedge for the weekend? Really like the FHC's (I must be mad).

And i am sure Smelly Smolenski will feel guilty when your S6 is back to Blackpool for 3 months for a rebuild ..

Enjoy the 911

Definately a pain in the wallet - the warranty was worthless. Apparently needing a new engine after 1100 miles is because of driver error, despite the fact the car was correctly run-in and always warmed up correctly. Having owned a 420 SEAC, Griff and Cerbera in the past and never having had the problem before, its fair to say I know how to treat a new TVR.

But despite all the problems, I still love the cars. Perhaps I'm just a hopeless romantic in love with a brand that is fighting an uphill struggle!

A recent newbie who sold his unreliable TVR put it well: "Every drive was sheer excitement and a dread." That about sums it up for me too. Like an opera diva they are dramatic, sexy, loud, temperamental and can be volatile. And as you discovered to your cost they dont always pay their medical bills.

That would about sum up my TVR ownership experience.

LA you forgot expensive

Get out there and give the 911 some tarmac to eat. At least you'll get home every time, and not be worrying about some new ticking or scraping or grinding noise...

and if the spare pennies allow - pick up a cheap 4.2 cerbie for the sunday car

Best of both worlds then, german pants and british skidmarks - match made in heaven

Don't feel guilty, the 911 is a great car!

30k however is a lot miles. What you need is a diesel, not a sports car.

....and a TVR for the weekend

Cheers,

Andy.

Woman, in a 911 with a lovely sound, passed me by the other day. But cant afford for Bluey, or 911, to be our every day car, given the short journeys we do.

If money's not a major issue, I'd have new Rover MG V8 4.6 - they can still be bought for £20K NEW!! - and a well sourced Morgan +4 .... with a P5B3500 Rover AND a 400SE as back up

You might feel a few pangs now, but drive the 911 for a while and you'll not look back. Certainly that's my feeling after owning a 4.3 Chim, Griff 500, Cerb 4.5 and now a GT3

Absolutly the only way you can seek redemption and fully enjoy the 911 with a clear concience would be to buy this

www.pistonheads.com/sales/65836.htm

and come and race it

That frankly, is nothing short of an absolute disgrace, you have my total sympathy, they simply don't deserve loyal customers. A very similar reason for me meant I didn't buy a fifth one.

You should feel BAD!!!!!!!!

No, only joking. Its a more 'sensible' choice. The new 911 is a great shape! To be honest, if I was in the same position, I probably would have done the same thing ..such a shame the modern TVR's are so unreliable. Why cant they use different engines..?We all know TVR's have their niggles and minor probs but repeated engine blows get very depressing (I Know). Why not use a BMW V8 or a Ford/Jag..something tried and tested...I'd like to see that next - I think its the only way you'll now get someone to part with over £50k for a car.

No wonder TVR sales are so bad - when keen customers feel they have no choice but to buy from Porsche.

Hope you enjoy the 911 and get a wedge for the weekend

Yes Porsches are good but what if good isn't enough? That's what you need a TVR for Rich...

But LA, you never drive yours. You're in the States and your cars in Scotland.
