TVR History

With all the current rumblings I started to wonder about the ownership and company history of TVR. Its Probably in a book somewhere but ithought i'd ask here. If you look at the history of most car companies they have turbulant past i.e. Aston Martin, and I wondered how TVR compaired.


Didnt it start off as trev car and then become TVR but was it TVR cars or TVR engineering.

didnt it become grantura plastics or grantura engineering at one point and was it still trading when Martin Lilley bought it with his father...

what about the off shoots of the company.. Trident and what was Jack Griffiths company in the usa...

what was the path to the current TVR ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION LIMITED owned by NS...
( that interestingly changed its name on 15/03/2006 from TVR Engineering)set up in 1963

I am sure someone on here knows about how best to structure companies and groups etc for the max poss tax benefits, not to mention for risk exposure etc etc
As to whether they can enlighten simple folk like me I don't know.
But I am sure there will be some sort of reason for chnaging and transposing company names, directors etc

To answer some of the above queries (hopefully correctly):

Trident cars built rebodied griffs and V6 Tuscans using an Italian designed body originally commissioned by TVR (I think)

Jack Griffith was the American importer and having come up with the idea of the first V8 TVR () decided to name it after himself

As regards the modern companies John Galt is the new holding company. It is named after some 50s management guru (it has been suggested that maybe instead of naming ones company after an individual it might be better to read his work).

As for the rest of them I don't believe that there is much consideration of the tax impact. I have heard that the restructuring has sent the company's tax experts positively loopy with despair as inept restructuring follows ill thought out reshuffling.

I recently watched the wonderfull Lambodvd and they're not even 60 years old. What a history and what heritage . . . lot's of financial trouble too btw. But they stick to what they do best: building an outrageous looking / sounding / performing V12 supercar.

I understand that TVR ENGINEERING AND PRODUCTION LIMITED make the cars and sell them to TVR MOTOR COMPANY who then sell the cars to the dealers, who then sell them to the public.
