Ipod in a TVR (old pioneer headunits)

I bought a FM transmitter (via e-bay) that plugs into the ipod and you then tune the radio in - works well except its seems to use a lot of battery power (2 AAAs) and you have to control it via the ipod which means raeching down onto the passenger seat and having a fiddle - mind you it only cost a couple of quid. put ipod FM transmitter into the e-bay search engine.

yes i did exactly that, got a cable from sextons, got bored of trying to control it thru the mp3 player tho, so i bought the alpine so i could control the ipod thru the hifi controls

I have the ipod adapter in my tamora and its the dogs dangly bits. I did upgrade th head but I have complete control over the ipod. Carl baker fitted it for me and did a cracking job.

Dunno about that one, I used a Pioneer CD-RB20 - little box the size of a deck of cards that splits the input and allows an aux flying lead.

Also good for plugging SatNav on my Palm T|X into - sat nav woman comes through the car speakers and ensures I hear the "gatso" call above the exhaust

I just fitted a Pioneer Ipod adaptor, CD-IB100, like in the link to the Pioneer web site above (thanks for that). Cost £70 from my local shop but less on the Internet. I've got a Pioneer DEH3500MP head unit in my Griff - a fairly basic CD/MP3/Tuner from about 3 years ago. Don't know if the CD-IB100 will work with stuff much older than that, but it works with the Pioneer IP-Bus (usually used for CD autochanger) so if your unit has got that you will probably be OK. My original Griff Pioneer cassette head unit is a KEHP3600R from about 1997 and it has the IP-Bus so would probably work but maybe not offer every function. I didn't try it.

The CD-IB100 is fantastic, offers every function that you could reasonably expect given that the display isn't a large LCD screen. Playback is really easy to control, you can choose by playlist, artist, album and genre although scrolling through long lists of albums is quite slow - better to choose from a few playlists. It take over complete control of the Ipod, including charging it, even displays the Pioneer logo on the Ipod screen. It took me about 30 minutes to fit inside the dash (accessed from the glovebox and the opening for the head unit). There are just a couple of leads to plug in, apart from needing to connect to a power source - the easiest one is probably on the back of your head unit anyway, so if you buy a couple of bullet connectors you'll probably be OK. I decided to have the docking cable in the glovebox so that the Ipod is hidden when connected and there is no visible indication that I might be carrying an Ipod like a dock on the dashboard etc. The leads are quite long though so if you want your Ipod dashboard mounted it would be no problem. I'd definitely recommend it.

PS My father is looking at £500 to have a dock fitted to his Boxster - secretely delighted to have one bit of electronics on the Griff that is superior to Porsche.

I second that!, mine works perfect with a Pioneer ANH-9R Sat Nav head unit and a Ipod Video
