This lovely 3 year Warranty is great when buying a new TVR but i think the entire picture is lost.

I have a number of older TVRs which i can maintain myself or use a local rolling road tuner, i can buy my service items from my local motor factors or have anything else next day delivered from a handfull of suppliers.

I have been looking at buying something newer, say 5 years old, warranty doesnt affect me but a car i can afford does. Would i consider a speed 6 engined car ............ not bloody likely.

Its no good having a 3 year warranty if nobody has the confidence to buy the car on the second hand market

Errrr.

You can buy a warranty for any TVR up to around 10 years' old.

(According to the warranty company I just renewed my Tamora warranty with.)

Eh? I don't really understand the point of this post.

There are people out there (e.g., TVR Power, Austec etc...) who can rebuild the Speed 6 with or without a warranty. Parts may not be as cheap or readily available as a Rover V8 or Ford V6, but there are plenty of people out there who run other much rarer and more specialist cars perfectly fine.

If you don't want one, then don't buy one - it's simple.

Frankly, all this TVR/Speed 6 knocking is very boring now.

Was reading this yesterday. Thought it quite interesting. Buy an older Tuscan EG £19,000 if engine goes budget for it in the first instance, spend the £6500 on all the sweet bits. Total cost £25,000 for a 400 BHP car with the looks that no other manufacturer can come close too....... Erm that still sounds a bargain to me and you may not actually have to fork out the extra money for a long time if ever??

And if someone is quibbling over a few quid, just don't bother buying the thing in the first place. Bit like discussing TVR fuel economy....... contradiction in terms.

Have a whinge about the weather or the government instead....

There is a 'Speed Six Engine' forum for this kind of thing which has been discussed and re-discussed more times than the sex appeal of 2-Jags prescott.

Whatever you do dont buy a 348 or a 355 or any other older Ferrari outside the factory warranty period, otherwise it might go boom and there will be nobody to repair it.

Certainly avoid Maserati Ghiblis and dont go anywhere near a Lambo Diablo (or again some of the earlier 80's cars) as when they require massively expensive engine work you are stuffed.

Any others you can think of?

Can you see the parrallel here?

I fell utterly and completely in love with the Tuscan Mk1 when it was unveiled at the motorshow. I have seen several since and they stop me in my tracks. I've never had the opportunity of a ride in one, however have been at trackdays with them, admired them in parking lots and on one notable occasion spent the best part of an hour admiring one on a cross-channel ferry on the way to the 'ring (perfection is a Crystal Topaz Mk1 )

To me, the Mk1 Tuscan is the poster supercar that I MUST own. (Although the entire current range is dribble inspiring).

I recognise they are handbuilt, temperamental and may come with terrifying bills. Funnily enough all of the above listed limited production handbuilt monsters have similar issues.

The speed 6 was far from flawless when released, but it's being developed constantly and the failure rate for newer models is substantially lower that the first tranche of Tuscans. While it will always require more work than a Honda, compare the bills to an engine out belts service on a Ferrari? or the engine bills for a Diablo!

TVR arent the only company to have released a slightly flawed product, every car company does. Anyone ever own a Ford Probe? The whole thing was a bodge. Ford Ka and it's chocolate camshafts (or fiestas with the same engine), BMW engines (entire range in the late 90s), Porsche RMS failure?

For gods sakes give the random SP6 rants a rest. Put them into some sort of context, be aware of the potential issues, but dream about the cars (or drive them if you've worked hard enough and are lucky enough to have one).

I must admit, I can't see your point either.

I bet 90% of people on here own a second hand Tiv, so clearly there is a market.

Or are you on about depreciation ?

Yep.. I think the Mk1 Tuscan looks stunning.. And it was the very first car (that i am aware of) to have the motorcycle looking exhaust cans. (Now often copied by the Burberry wearing population on old Vectras and the like)

The Tuscan mark one is, I think, a true motoring icon in every sense, it still looks stunning, and always will, I feel; a true measure of a classic. It was one of the most difficult decisions (motor related, that is) in chosing a Tam over the Tusc.

For some reason many people think that a Tuscan should be able to be run on a shoe string and get stroppy when it proves expensive. Where they get this impression from I don't know. Maybe it's to do with the current fairly low second hand values. I've got one and am fully prepared to spend 6k on it if needs be.

It's a supercar so expect supercar bills.

Excellent point

Iam used to running my 400se on virtually bugger all money, but then i suppose it is only a sports car rather than the super car of today. So the thought of upgrading to more modern a TVR will now be out of my league. Better refurb the 400 as it will need to last a bit longer.
