I finally test drove a Tuscan and a Cerbera yesterday and the decision is made, the E-Type is going and I'm getting a TVR.

I was blown away by both cars but I think I am going for the Tuscan - despite everything I've read.

Hopefully if I go for a late 01 51 plate car I should be relatively safe. The dealer says all problems now sorted? Anyone got any views.

Cars in franchised dealerships seem 5-8k more expensive than those sold through "specialists" but with this car is it worth the risk of going outside the dealer network?

Congrats! Hope you have as much fun as the E-type. I had an E-type when I was younger, but my Tuscan is much more fun. OK, you had to pedal the E-type along and it only drove one rear wheel......

The probability of problems on any newer car will be less than an older car. They still can go wrong. And my opinion is that if you are saving 5-8k, you are either lucky and it's fine, or it's not, and you'll eat into that saving - but not all of it.

I've heard you may get more sympathy from the factory if required if you keep the serving within the dealer network. What's the engine warranty (4.0 Tuscan's came with 2 years) ?

Cheers,

Andy.

Have you thought of looking at the cars advertised on PH?? You'll likely end up with the best of both worlds a great car at resonable money.

Most of the sellers will have details about their cars in their profile and being genuine enthusiasts the cars will have been looked after. Not to say that you will have no problems, as these things have a habit of sneeking up on you despite all care being taken.

coincidence but I was at David Batty's yesterday and was looking over a very nice e-type parked amongst the TVR's. actually made me think of the similarities between the style of cars.

That's the point, you have to drive them. Moss 'box, bellows servo, no seatbelts, power assisted nothing. It's basically a mans car.

(It also looks $1M and sounds awesome).

Go for it - it would be rude not to!! They are the most amazing car to drive and to look at - the sexiest curves of any TVR in my opinion - and never fail to turn heads wherever you are!!

Let us know how you get on
