Window problem

The drivers side window on my 96 Griff 500 has decided to give up on me!
It started playing up a couple of weeks ago when we were out in very wet, cold weather. At the time it went up half way & refused to budge, it is now closed but wont move at all.(the other window works fine) If its of any interest the ice detector light came on at the same time but refuses to go off even in warmer weather.
Any advice gratefully accepted, please keep in mind I am a mechanical retard but I do have some clever friends & access to a copy of the bible.
Thanks in advance
Nick

Hmm - can't offer many pearls of wisdom on the window, but the ice detector is sitting right up under the grill and will be subject to all the nasties of winter. When mine failed it was stuck on red...
...all this high tech stuff in a TVR...
A couple of quid to replace I think.
Did the window failure happen suddenly or has it slowly ground to a halt? I know you say it has played up before but if it's motor failure it would be fairly sudden I suppose - if it has become mis-aligned, I guess it would become stiffer over a period?

I don't know how your window works, but I used to have a Rover where you had to give the glass a helping hand until eventually it gave up.
When I took it all apart, there was a cog that forced a toothed track to go up & down. The track was full of grime, so the teeth weren't very obvious. Clearing the gunk out helped, but the window would still stick at one point 'cos the cog would sit and spin at one point and had ground away one of the teeth on the track. A little push would engage the next tooth and get things moving again.

incorrigible said: Sounds like it's either a problem with the motor, the electrics, or something else![]()
Nick, Are you coming on the Surrey run this Sunday
Ben
Now I remember why I like you so much..thanks for the advice.
Re Sunday...do bears s..t in the woods? (that'll be a yes then)
See you there
Nick
The problem with the window could be that it has come out of the guide track and is getting wedged against the metal track. If so, then the only way to solve it is to take the door panel off to get to it, loosen the track and reposition the glass correctly ......
Not a "complex" job, but can be awkward to get to the retaining bolts/screws with your arm stuffed through the speaker hole.

IT WORKS AGAIN!!!
A huge thank you to Ian & Les (Lake & RZD) for their efforts today. Found the problem was caused by water getting into the connections. Once that was done, they decided to go over the car with a fine tooth comb & sort out some of the little niggles. I felt like a bit of a spare part as they worked on my pride & joy.
To top it all off Les's wife cooked us a wonderful meal.
Thanks guys, its geat that these pages put like minded people in touch with each other. I consider myself very lucky to have such good & knowledgeable friends.
Lunch on me tomorrow, dont argue!!
