I Hate You TVR Lot...

It's just not fair. It's taken me almost 7 months to try and forget the absolute pleasure of driving the Tuscan MK2, Sagaris and T350 at TVR Chiswick (for the couple of days that place was open) last year.
For the last few weeks I've somehow managed to remove all reference to TVR from my car shopping list, choosing more uncomfortable and dare I say, more reliable, cars such as the Lotus Elise/Exige S2 instead.
But you couldn't just leave it there could you, WELL COULD YOU?! Like hitting a dog with a big juicy bone, throwing sherbert at a drug addict or offering Gary Glitter a Mothercare catalogue...you have to drive by me on my bleeding lunch break with a DARK BLUE MK2 TUSCAN, making THAT noise, and looking THAT good.
Now not only do I find myself looking frantically through the classifieds section of this site, I also have to explain to my colleagues exactly why I stopped in a set of revolving doors to watch the aforementioned beauty grumble past my office, thereby finding myself completely trapped half in and half out of my building!
Gah. Hope you're all proud of yourselves, no doubt I'll catch up with you all at the next TVR meet.

I bet if there was a way to see how many people have looked at this comment it would be incredibly high. The mere possibility of a chat-battle "TVR v the world" and pistonheaders come running!
I am of the age that a garage probably wouldn't even give me a test drive without a credit check so feel sorry for me!

for when you join us in Tiv ownership! Good choice. I drove a Mk 2 Exige recently, in fact a 240bhp supercharged one, double in fact round the Nurburgring no less. If I didn't have my Sagaris it would be the next choice (OK, maybe after a t350tt rr, or tuscan S, or tuscan S vert). Having driven it and heard it's hysterical shrieking soundtrack (utterly fantastic with the stage 2 Lotus sports exhaust) I think it's a great car. But it's considerably slower and believe it or not, considerably less practical than the Sagaris. And perhaps even more surprising, felt less grippy too. Yet with all the necessary accoutrements it's not much cheaper.

My MD is a big fan and has a Chim. He's been thinking about getting a Tuscan 2 S for a while and my purchase was the catalyst to him buying the one that's in Gatwick TVRs showroom at the moment
Only thing is he had to get something faster than me, didn't he?

I feel differently........... almost a little depressed, that after owning my Griff for nearly 4 years it's time to move on.
I must investigate more into this Noble GTO 3R feeling that I have had, ever since sitting in and starting up my neighbours last year, I can't stop thinking about it!

The point I’m trying to make is that The Noble has taken over my thoughts from the Griffith. The Griffith is still a wonderful brute (this is the section where you can now be cheerful) but there really does come a time when something else takes over a desire. In my case (after 4yrs of reliable and Thrilling TVRing) it is not another TVR but a Noble GTO 3R. I’m not the only PH’er to think like this, in-fact you will find much stronger views about this subject on other threads. www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=214203&f=26&h=0 One fellow PH’er describes how he will never go back to TVR after the Noble experience. That’s not how I feel, TVR will always be a great mark for me, and I would never run down the mark like so many other X TVR owners are happy to do.Bridges will not be burnt!
It was not my intention to depress, although that is how I was felling at last post. I just wanted to voice my dilemma thinking I might get talked out of it!

Whatever you do, make sure you try a Sagaris before you buy the Noble. I'm confident you'll think it's the best of both worlds. Besides, the suspension was set up by the same people who set up the Noble (no, not lee Noble, Bilstein) so it handles beautifully and by all accounts better than any TVR before it. Plus you get what's great about TVRs like inspired unique styling and detailing (take the wings of a Noble and what have you got?!) and a beautifully bespoke interior (very unlike any Noble partsbin pix n mix).
And to be fair to the Griff, it's a pretty old car to compare to a Noble. I reckon driving a new TVR will impress you equally, perhaps even more. If you like the hardcore trackday styling the Sagaris is TVR's version and is, trust me on this, considerably more head turning than any Noble. If you want to tone it down (a bit) and like wind in the hair motoring (unavailable from Noble) try a Tuscan S, I hear the mk 2's are superb and are getting rave reviews in the press.
Unless of course you're a speed six phobic and then you'll miss out on one of the most fabulous, thrilling engines on sale, and all of the above is irrelevant.
And to be fair to the Griff, it's a pretty old car to compare to a Noble. I reckon driving a new TVR will impress you equally, perhaps even more. If you like the hardcore trackday styling the Sagaris is TVR's version and is, trust me on this, considerably more head turning than any Noble. Maybe I've got lucky and got an unusually good one, but my Sagaris has been exemplary over 6000 miles and a year and half. The same can't be said of some Exiges I know. That said, the Exige is a stunning car in every way and I in no way want to put it down, as a 3 time Lotus owner, it's a car I would have considered had TVR not made the Sagaris.
I just think TVR really have made serious improvements in quality and reliability (for goodness sake they even bothered to find a way to stop the speedo needle wobbling - now that's attention to detail!) and they deserve some credit. My Sagaris has, so far, performed way ahead of expectations. That includes behaving far, far better than my '99 Lotus Esprit V8, also bought from new.
I think new TVRs are at least on a par with Lotus. I used to think they were a level below in terms of build and reliablity but my ownership experience has changed that. Well done TVR.

I have wondered what a Sag might be like, and you're right the Griff is an old development now, but just sitting in and starting that GTO 3R never mind not driving it….well I’m hooked I must say.
I have never been an impulse buyer and always brought and looked methodically.
I looked at 6 Griffs and brought the 5th in the line.
I must not let this GTO thing get to my head!
