Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the Le Mans section so apologies if it is in the wrongs section - mods feel free to move if I got it wrong.
Just wondering if anyone here is going with the TVR car club and camping on Houx?
Just asking as the site I am staying on this year belongs to someone who has been going for years and apparently is just in front of the main TVRCC site. If so then come on over and say hi and share some cold beers if you are around - look for a Dark Blue Golf GT TDI and red MGF (or poss Merc A Class).
Tiv is staying at home unfortunately as I promised to be the load lugger before I bought it.....doh!! Although thought I might make something up saying my other car is a TVR....honest!!

BIG,BIG,BIG mistake that you will regret for the rest of your life, and into the next one as well. Bugger the promises you made, take the Chim. If you dont you will be miserable all the time thinking what could've been. AND what sort of mates have you got???? wanting you to leave your TVR in the garage for LeMans week so they can have a clean pair of shreddies. Fcuk em, you can always make new friends but you may never get the chance to drive down to LeMans in a TVR. Beleive me your heart will break everytime a Tiv growls past

I too am leaving the Tiv at my dad's place.
But you have me thinking now!
Reasons:
1 This is my 1st Le mans and so wanted to check out the way it's done, for instance: I was talking to a copper about 2 years ago who had borrowed his gaffa's Griff to go to Le mans and he was making out that there are not enough petrol stations on the way down, and that I would need to take a petrol can. Not sure I believe that one or that he had such a great and kind gaffa!
2 I have been given a nice side tent for my Caddy van, the van has aircon, cruise control and sleeps 2 in the back.
3 If it rains and it's hot I can't think of a more stressful place to be than a bake oven like cockpit, while trying to keep the Tiv on the road!
Help, I don't want to regret not taking the Griff, and I don't want to regret taking it!
Am I a big girl's blouse or captain sensible?

I dont understand whats going on here. The drive down to LeMans is one of lifes greatest experiences, especially in a high performance car. The roads are full of all manner of exotic cars, old and new, reliable and unreliable. You dont have to drive like a maniac(although some do) but you are a part of something special. The roads are brilliant compared to ours, there are any amount of fuel stops, (its France, not a 3rd world country) and with the top down, sunshining, v8 rumbling and a tent in the boot you should be in heaven. OK, the car may break down but then so might the other 1000 or so TVR's on the trip. Breakdown cover is cheap if you want to be safe.It may rain, if so keep your top on and get wet putting up your tent. It may be a scorcher again (hope so), then you may sweat a little but no more than others in much less comfort than you in your Griff
People are genuinly friendly, wave, thumbs up, talk cars/beer/anything. Even the French seem to enjoy having the Brit sportscar invasion.
When you line up at the port amongst other Tivs, Ferraris, cobras, Porches, Nobles, Lambos, classics, GT 40's and you are in the camper van tell me honestly will you be able to smile??
My advice (if you havent realised)
TAKE YOUR TVR !!!! surely this is why you have it?

A Tiv will eat the journey to Le Man and back with ease and style.I had a great summer last year driving around the Loire region putting on at least fifteen hundred miles in little over a week. The only problem you will have in a French garage is explaining 350 BHP and what Blackpool is in French

Thursday and we're in Houx. Did I mention (now she's out of the room) that the misses is coming? and that's another reason why I'm taking the Van. She finds the Griff loud, tiring and bumpy! I'm letting her have it her way this year!
I've laid it on the line and told her how it is (and the result is...we're taking the van)
I will do LM in my Tiv next year I think.

I would believe that one, depends on what route you take, if your on the main motorway N road you should be ok, however if you go on the quieter routes you will find Petrol stations but they are often closed after a certain hour and Sundays, most have the facility to pay by card but you try and find a card they will except. Last year after Le Mans we decided to drive back upto the coast for the evening on Sunday night, we ended up driving on fumes in the end as between the four of us none of our cards were accepted!

You must really really love her and we have to assume (putting on sexist hat)that she is extremely fit.
Have you tried explaining that the French roads are all smooth and pothole free, and that driving on the continent in an open top sportscar is just sooo fashionable. And that with the top down the engine noise will be blown away in the wind?? Oh and mention the charming little french cafe's that you will be making frequent stops at
. But respect is due as not many girls accompany their fellas at LeMans

What a load of b0llOx. The first time I went down was in a wedge with the usual sort of wedge driver who looks on a roundabout as an excuse to get the car sideways. If we avaerage more than 14 to the gallon I would be surprised and didn't have any problem finding petrol stations. It is more difficult on a Sunday or on a bank holiday but by no means impossible.

BGB. Just get the roof off the griff and you will not have a problem. If you cannot sleep after the normal amounts of LeMans beer/wine intake whateve the weather, you are not partying hard enough

Who is doing the driving ? Take the vehicle you feel more comfortable in (ie the Griff). Also the French roads are a lot smoother than the british roads
. If your girlfriend cannot cope with the journey down in the Griff, I doubt that she will go next year so you will be able to go in the Griff without worrying.

Hmmmmm, what to do!!!
I took the MX5 last year (not quite the same as a Tiv I know)and it just sat on the site getting covered in dust.
And this year we have free petrol (company expenses) and a/c and I can bring my fridge....so do I go for wafting down in the tiv for a few hours (which I agree would be great) or a free run down in the Golf and a weeks worth of chilled beer.................the chilled beer is winning all the way at the mo especially if the weather is anything like it was last year!!
Of course you know now that the weather is simply going to be cold and overcast and I am going to kick myself for this decision!!

What's the point in having a car like this, if you don't use it? 
Last year the good lady and I took BOTH TVR's to Le Mans, and then spent the three weeks or so afterwards tootling around France and Spain… something like 4000 miles covered.
