Just seen on Orange's (wanadoo) homepage a list of the top 10 motoring flops, at no4 is the TVR Speed 12.
I would hardly call it a flop as it never went int full production as a road car.
Same as the MG Xpower SV that they have at no8.

Yeah i don't see how you can call it a flop since TVR never tried to sell it to the public.
I think it did ok on the Track..

Hi
I don't think that anything that lifts the public perception of a company can be deemed a flop, but it depends on which way you look at it.
The car was originally done to race in a series to lift the profile, it did this, but due to rule changes had to be reworked, so become something else.(wider with the aorodynamics ofa brick).

It would have been a stunning road car, but once again the * M55 Aerodynamic principles were deemed sufficient for GT1???

I showed my original sketches for the front end to a potertial Japanese client a few years ago, and he said the car was TATALLY OFFENSIVE and HIDEOUS!!, result!(likesome kind of nasty cartoon character.)...to do this isan achievement.

If you did not have the speed 12, then you would not have had the Tuscan etc which followed, as I say, depends how you look at it.

Explanation

* M55 Aerodynamic principles - If you drove it hard down the M55 Motorway from Blackpool to Preston and it stayed on the road, the aerodynamicswere OK!!

What a load of ill-informed rubbish on that Orange website. 2 gears? What is the idiot on about. The writer also, like so many others before him, doesn't know the difference between the Speed 12 and Cerbera Speed 12 - but he clearly doesn't care, either.

Still, never let the facts get in the way, etc.

Crazynick, you're referring to the original Speed 12 with regard to aero (and its gorgeous looks...), but the article shows a pic of the Cerbera. Cerbera did have some aero work carried out at MIRA - centred largely on splitters, venturis and cooling (in fact it was almost exclusively front end work). It was all a little late as the basic shape had already been decided upon, but at least some effort was made.

Firstly, cheers guys for the insight into the Speed 12 & Cerb. I'm quite fascinated with the Speed 12 since seeing it on one of Jeremy Clarkson's Video's (i think.)

I think if the car had been made in any quantity for the road (like 100+) and only sold say 2 then you could call it a flop but since it has become a bit of a TVR icon i'd call it a success.

Infact (correct me if i'm wrong) there have been a few people who have wanted a speed 12 and TVR wouldn't make it. Demand greater than supply? Definite Success..

Oh sorry....That speed 12, still same applies, it still lifted the profile of the marque in my opinion.

That was after I left, the original was an awesome Playstation car though - one day those kids will want their first real TVR, let's hope they can get their fix eh!

I was wondering what Sp12 it was on about as well.

The white car is now a pace car somewhere (Trevor Cooper did tell me but I have forgotten), the red one in the pic is now down south, soon to be back up to Blackpool for Back Home plus a little something extra.
