Bedfordshire Police have noticed a trend in performance cars being stolen from owners garages and drives.

Most of the unfortunate victims have been observed for a few days before the theft took place according to a circular going around the three counties police forces. They think that the thieves follow cars home to see where they are parked and monitor your movements and break in when possible and steal the keys. This week there have been 4 cars stolen in this fashion (Subaru, Porsche Boxster, Audi TT and a Lotus Elise). Some of the owners did not notice for quite a while as the thieves are very careful to shut the garage doors behind them.

Bedford is a bloody armpit!

Makes you wonder whether CCTV outside your house and garage is a good idea. But, we should all fit Trackers, as well.

A simple solution might be to clamp your car in the garage.

If its not your daily driver, when you park it pop the bonnet and remove the king lead.

Either that or get a quick release steering wheel hub.

Matt.

First thing I did when I bought the Tuscan was buy and fit a safe in the house to keep the keys in when I'm not using it. Cost me £60 - gotta be worth it.

My local Tracker fitter has a system that was designed in SA. Due to the amount of carjacking this system has a hidden button you have to press. If you don't in 30 seconds the car starts to miss a beat, and a warning alarm starts and within 1 minute the car is rendered useless by power to the fuel pump and electronic ignition being immobilised.

All this for £200.00. Its not insurance approved so you wont get any premium reduction, but by this statement your car, if nicked, should get no further than 1 minute from your house with the alarm going off.

If it's a second car, park the boringmobile hard up against the garage at night, and keep its keys nowhere near the pride and joy's.

Don't keep keys in view of the front door. In the bottom of ceral boxes, under the plastic lining is quite a good place.

Has to be one of the best 's offered. Fitting a clamp or getting under the bonnet each time you want to use the car are a pain and you can end up getting your clothes dirty each time (sorry if that sounds too much like a hairdressers comment) A safe in the house bolted to the floor in a bedroom or under the stairs should stop most car tea leaves in their tracks unless they are safe crackers as well

I suppose one answer for Cerb owners is to remove the metal shut-off key.

Leighton Buzzard?! It's too close to Dunstable, thats the issue I reckon. Really makes you wonder where the decent places are nowadays. Luckily the M wouldn't get very far unless the pushed it or trailered it away, but it really does make you wonder...

Spikes and garage door wired to the mains it is then...

FFS What is this world coming too...

Similar thing happened to a friends car. Keys stolen from the house (north of St Albans)when he was asleep. The car has now turned up in Saudi apparantly!

Interesting fact was the police recommended that he leave the keys somewhere where the thief could find them (but not immediately accessible from the letterbox!). On asking him further it seems that if they cannot find the keys they are not adversed to
"waking the owner up" .

It was. Till you posted it on the internet

I'll have to go and retrieve the Griff keys from the cornflakes now.

Think I'll pop them in the washing powder box.

Doh! Gave that one away as well.....

opened the locked garage, and stole the car... IT was later found by Helicopter !!!!!!!
