Not heard any bad things with this upgrade.

My mates went at 16 thousand,camshaft failure on a o3 plate and its just cost him 12k to fix at jct in leeds,porsches contribution was a grand.
because he bought it privately and it was out of warranty needless to say they told him where to go.
I'm sure you can get it fixed for a lot less but then he did'nt really have much choice at the time.

If the claim is just over the warranty limit surely this means they pay the max under the terms of the warranty on the car and you cover the rest????????????
Once repaired you take car to Porsche dealer and get it checked and a full OPC warranty on it.

I am not touting for business (we are booked up until the end of August), but it may help you or be useful for others to know that we have several spare good used 996 engines, rebuild options for a reconditioning an engine if a liner has cracked, new intermediate shaft bearings (not available from Porsche) and full rebuild facilities and a transporter for collection - but we are based in the North West.
We are undergoing road trials with an engine with a replacement liner to be made available shortly.
This gives our customers a great variety of options if and when a dissaster happens - but we obviously need to know what went wrong first. If we end up replacing an engine then we do not charge for us stripping down the old one to find out what was wrong.
Prices for minor options start around £2,500 + Vat and an average would be around £4,500 to £5,000 Plus Vat for a rebuild and parts. We will also consider buying a car with a damaged engine.
It may of course not be that serious as we have had a number of engines that were condemned "to need new replacement" which we managed to rebuild - for which our stock of good used spares is a great help.
We have not developed bigger bore kits because at the moment we have a serious concern about the capability of the big end shells and con rods to manage the extra power delivery long term - and replacing them as well adds up to serious costs again. We are more into simply returning the car to it's original pre-dissaster condition fo a reasonable cost.

all sounds a bit dodgy-servicing intervals are every 12k miles not 15k (unless a US mile is smaller (like their gallons!)

Sorry dont agree, if you have a £45k car then yes, but the early 996's are now getting to the stage where they wont be able to get one & as baz had said indys can do full engine for £4500.
So unless 16.66% of engines go, spend the money on serviceing or even the hartech deal. £60pm.
