I've just got my copy of the new EVO, and noticed a letter from a prospective TVR buyer, asking about the "rumour" of major engine work at 30,000 miles. Surprisingly, the EVO man was unaware of any major problems, but goes on about known issues such as faulty oil senders, speed sensors failing etc.
It shed an interesting light on what is perceived on PH as a HUGE failing with the Speed Six - a reputable magazine well respected by the company doesn't have any knowledge of, or angle on, the supposed fragility of Speed Six engines. It puts the issue into a little more perspective, I think.

) Yeah, I read this last night. Interesting.
What I also found interesting was the small article with the picture of the orange Sagaris basically saying that TVR were on the up with regards to ambition, quality and warrenties etc. etc.
For people who don't come on here and only read EVO, they must have a really good perception of what is going on at TVR.
It makes me wonder that being regular readers on Pistonheads, we are submersed in a downer about TVR up to a point.

Ditto comments about the letter. However, does not actually surprise me a lot, given that many of the TVR drivers I meet at car shows/goodwood etc do not actually have an awareness of PH. That is why it is so good to see Ted and others at the Motor Show - and why we should also spread the word as much as possible to current owners and prospective purchasers. Only downside is that you get more people addicted - I have already been the "pusher" to 2 friends who are now regulars!

What, so they also become submerged in the depression and argument that pervades PistonHeads
Yeah, I mean its not as if certain ppl havent been saying for ages that the mainstream media doesnt regard the S6 as having a problem is it?
Im also rather amused at the 30k miles figure, me thinks someone ought to trawl back through the ph archives and see when it was first brought into common usage/folklore

I chcuckled a bit when I read the letter too.
It could also be, however, that the majority of SP6 owners one meets (dare I say it) have not had engine problems? That is certainly the case with me and most of the many I have met.
The other interesting stat they quoted was Smolenski saying he expected to sell 450 cars next year, with 250 for the UK. So they expect to export nearly half the production?

Who are these sado's that right in to car mags FFS! Why shoul you believe anything they have to say - they thrash a few new car round for a bit. Woopee do.
Exactly.
Same goes for internet forums.
It's easy for anybody to get the wrong end of the stick if they listen to the wrong sado's (or saddo's even).

Wrong end of the stick - the EVO reply is where the engine issue isn't mentioned - not the letter which mentions a "rumour".
The general public only seem to know about the frailty of TVRs in general, nothing about TVRs own engines having gone pop in the past (both the AJP 4.2 and SP6s). That they comment about bits falling off and them breaking down can only be a good thing, as if they are aware of the media mentioning the newer cars are better built, the general perception can only get better and increase sales.

Lots of the cars in current build seem to be left hand drive.. so this may back up this 'export' drive quote..

Good news if true, although Brit sales at 250 is a bit disappointing.
