Whilst out yesterday in the chimaera,i happened aross a lotus turbo esprit 91H reg.As we pulled along side one another a quick glance over from both of us,an the impending race was on.He pulls away first while im struggling to get the power down.I wind the V8 up and im approaching down on top of him like a tornado bomber on its target.Roundabout ahead and he is through and becoming a dot in my windscreen as his turbo kicks in,feed on some warp power and again im coming down fast on him, another roundabout, and while i struggle to keep my arse in shape he,s away at warp factor 8.With our race now approaching the end i pull alongside where we exchange a brief chat on our cars and a wave as we part company. Some one told me last week that a tvr would beat a lotus on the straight but would be left miles behind in the twistys and by god was he right.I was seriously impressed.

Yeah---I'm sure the police and your insurance company would be very impressed too if anything went wrong. Drivers who race on public roads deserve everything that's coming to them.

Clint

Just wondering if you drive a griff...?

You sound very boaring, what's the point of having a fast car, if you don't test it's speed & fall downs against another car a similar league, get a life or better still get yourself a fiesta

Clint are you telling me you have never had a bit of fun with your car,in the right circumstances. The only people on the road at the time were me and him,if there were other road users at the time, then i wouldnt have risen to the bait.Clint maybe you are a bit to conservertive for the cars you own.And should probably try a more sedate form of transport.

'Everything that’s coming to them’? What... Like a healthy dose of adrenaline, a huge grin, a sense of exhilaration, the sound of a roaring engine and BIG BIG fun. I, for one, agree with that!

Mark,
know what you mean. Had a similar experience with an Esprit myself, having just bought the Chim. There was I, dawdling along when BOOM - Big puff of smoke from his exhaust when the turbo kicked in and he was off round the round about whilst I was still trying to work out why the 'turbo boost button' I had just pressed turned off the dash lights instead?

Sorry I agree with Clint the public roads are not the place to be racing two high performance sportscars. And yes by the way I have done it myself, but afterwards have always regreted it for being so stupid!!

Just reassure yourself that he must be a bit of a short-arse to actually fit in one.

I agree with P7ULG, I think you are unfairly giving Clint a hard time - he's simply been the voice of reason.

Some car forums automatically bin threads that mention racing on the highway as they want to distance themselves from such behaviour.

When I'm on the road the only thing I want to distance myself from is the bloke I'm racing with.

BLUETHUNDER - You may have read in one of my recent replies to a post from you that while Esprit's are GOD DAMN FAST, rest assured that you almost certainly had a bigger grin for the experience!
As for being done on the bends, must try harder!

L O T U S

Lots Of Trouble Usually Serious

Just think of the days in the summer with the top down, he'll be stuck in the garage.

I know a Lotus fan that has 2, he says usualy one of them is working !!

Wouldnt stop me looking at them to buy tho, if you listened to all rumours you'd think TVR's fell apart.

I had the pleasure of meeting the best Lotus I've ever seen near Reading just before Christmas.

It was a Red 2000 W reg Esprit Turbo that was making a fantastic noise. I was entering a rounderbout when it flew past (at about midnight). It was obviously heavily modifed and proved this when he changed down a gear and about 3 foot of flames came out the exhausts at the back

Would have tried to keep up with him but the engine was still cold..... lovely car though and boy did it shift !

I agree in principal. Would have benefitted from him saying it in a less smug way though.

I think that an Esprit is faster than a 4.0 litre Chimaera.
Chimp~250 bhp (in best occasion)
Esprit~300bhp (depends the model)
