After reading the latest events list on our regional website for TVRCC I see that on the 16th March we are meeting at a pub then on to a 'glassworks' finishing off with a 'ramble' ??!!!
Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought idea of these meets was to meet have a bite and a pint then get out amongst it and abuse the fantastic set of roads we are blessed with ??
Well I don't know about you but I'm not quite ready to put the tartan rug on the parcel shelf just yet!!
So it's with this in mind I have found no other option than to form the D&C TVRCC splinter fraction.
If you are interested in TVRs and not thermos flasks could you give me some input I have a couple of routes in mind but I need some feedback.

PSSST! You aint seen me , right!!!

Stangely enough, I'm with you on this one mate! Being relatively new to the TVR fold, I have been most frustrated at the apparant reluctance to use the cars what their designed for.

Devon & Cornwall are indeed blessed with some of the best roads for blasting on and some very nice pubs to finish up with too.

So for me it's definitely:

'Thrash in convoy across Dartmoor' IN
'Visit the glassworks and various other museums ' OUT

PS: Whatever the route, please can we go through the Saltash tunnel

Visit a Glassworks????

Is that so everyone can buy a glass case to put their cherished motor in that they are obviously far too reluctant to play with at anything other than 10mph!!!!!!!!!!!!

Corin - any chance of working the Bristol contingent into at least one of your plans? I'm sure some of us are up for a decent run out.

I know there are routes that make it possible to get together for a good long run. It just means one group starts very early and the other finishes very late.

You could be onto something here! Our local TVRCC are going 'slot car racing'. I've attended 2 meetings in the last 4 years - got ignored twice!!! Maybe they spotted the lack of tartan rug on the rear shelf? Went to Le Mans with TVRCC a couple of years ago, only went with them as it involved driving the Le Mans circuit before the main race started. What a waste of time and money! Never got out of 3rd gear on the circuit - it was sooooooo slow! With one exception, the main purpose of the rest of the group appeared to be 'convoy driving' which seems to involve tootling along at 50 mph all nicely tied together! We, on the other hand did our own thing and had a fantastic week-end thrashing the griff around brilliant French roads, drinking too much beer and generally having a laugh.

By the way - you haven't seen me either!!!

OTOH some of the PH (unofficial) meets are so populated that the drive just becomes frustrating

You come up behind a lorry, you overtake it, simple right ?

Wrong, 30 TVRS come up behind a lorry on a nice twisty 'A' road and only a few get past every minute

Best thing to do IMHO is have a good blast with a couple of people and meet up for lunch. Either that or sort a route with a fair bit of dual carrigeway so you can re-group

Can someone pass me my tartan rug

So when are you considering having this Devon run, I could do with an excuse to go and see the old folks (arse end of Cornwall) be nice to give the car a bit of a run

Corin,

I would be interested in popping down for a quick thrash if it does not conflict with anything else in the diary, might just finish off your old S02s which are back on the car ! Sorry I didn't get to talk to you at the Seaton meet in Jan.

Blondemoment,

Did you pop along to the Dorset Dawdle (A Dorset PH thrash) ? I didn't manage to get everybodys name and if I ignored you I apologise. I have been trying to get the Dorset crew into their cars more but this only happens if someone orgaises it (I seem to have the job at the minute). As you pointed out going in a convoy does appear slow as you can only proceed as fast as the slowest car/driver if you want to stay together - perhaps a fast and slow group are needed. There will be a few runs this year and the format will develop as I am learning as I am organising. If you have any ideas for a run or two let me know or organise one yourself - I for one will turn up. Otherwise go in convoy to Surrey Runs / VW etc - I'm usually up for a thrash round the countryside.

Sounds like a larf might bring the Ford/new holland 8340 and get some ploughing done on route , I will have to pop along with Bob the (flying flat cap) planner as i havent quite got a TVR yet ,just putting another dorset dawdle together around the west of the county , the only problem is with Dorset is that it has not been blessed with loads of dual carridge way but there are plenty of other roads to have fun on glassworks sounds like an MG owners club meet

Looks like I'm onto something here , I'm getting more people coming forward than a John Leslie rape case!!
Right then people , I reckon we can sort a few runs to keep everyone happy , a Devon trash and a few cross border adventures to keep the distant troops happy , what do you want to do?

Hi Bob the Planner

Re: Dorset Dawdle - No we didn't go - the word 'Dawdle' was kinda off putting! It conjoured-up images of Tartan rugs, Barbour jackets, Labradors, wicker picnic hampers and shooting sticks and fossil collecting!
The times we were ignored were both at the pub 'meet' once at the Old Thatch and once at the Avon Causeway.

Right Corin, i think we need to keep this ball rolling and make it happen.

It's gonna take more than one thrash to satisfy all those out there who want real car club fixtures, so what's it gonna be?

I say organise a Devon/Cornwall route first off, e.g. Marsh Mills to Marsh Mills, fininshing up at the Marsh Mills for food and beer. The route Corin has in mind is fantastic and really would be worth coming down for (even from Dorset). Long sweeping moorland roads - just ensure your insurance companies will understand the explanation: "The sheep just jumped out at me"

Come on, there must be more of you out there who are up for it! Martin - you're a bit quiet?

Currently surprised at the lack of defence from those who actually want to visit glassworks and railway museums

I'm up for it if it's next week-end (1st and 2nd March), as I'll probably be down in Torquay visiting the folks....

I was out three times yesterday - wasn't the weather brilliant!
First a X-County blast back from Cullompton across Exmoor and the Somerset Levels. Second delivering the neighbours son to his girlfriends via the long and twisty way round (any excuse!). Thirdly met up with a pair of Griffs for a run round the county block (Cheddar Gorge and over the Mendips to a pub, thn back in the dark), a great run.
Front wheels are now black with brake dust.

Where were you guy's all last summer? Currently out of the country. Hope to be back for a burn in March or April. Out in the US, lots of V8's but they all sound like damp squids. There are some great drives around Plymouth and also some great pubs. 8 or 10 TVR's going around Burrator would make quiet a sight and quiet a sound. have a great burn. Regularly checkin to this sight so keep us informed.
