A while ago there was a thread running that reffered to the annoying ritual of opening the Chimaera boot.
TMS have fitted to my car a wonderful solution.
It's a switch hidden in the boot that is activated when the key fob as passed over a part of the rear panel(from the outside). The new switch only works when the car has been unlocked with the remote so security isn't compromised. So no more fumbling at petrol stations an more importantly, (as I park in my garage close to the passenger side) if the drivers door release plays silly devils I can still get in to the car.
Hope this is of some use
Rich

Rich,
the kit fitted was in the region of £140, so I recon good value.

140 notes isn't bad actually. I presume it's some kind of transponder thats hooked into the deadlock system?

PCS in Milton Keynes fitted a boot release onto my alarm key fob so all I have to do is press the button and the boot opens. Cost £50.

Quite a few modern alarms have this facility: the fitters just don't install it. Then you go back and they charge you £££ for a length of wire and a £1.50 relay.

Oops, better go and clean up these beans....

Do you think it can be fitted to a Tuscan?

As far as i know TVRs do not have the "double blipper" so the quick add on is not available, unless you replace the whole alarm! The kit can be adapted for any car with the electric boot release system.

I understand the web site is about to be updated with that and other bits and bobs. TMS will have the price of the kit itself.

My boot will release if the door open button is pressed and held. First pops open the door then pops open the boot.

I think the mod was done at Fernhurst.

I installed one of these in my Griffith and it works perfectly. As has been said all that is required is to trigger a small switch conceled behind the rear panel. It took me a couple of hours to fit so I would not class it in the "simple" catagory, more in the "medium complexity" range. Nothing difficult but it does involve cutting and soldering a few wires in various places so you need confidence in using a soldering iron. Also with my sausage sized fingers I managed to bust one of the components... twice but I think David has improved the strength of this item now? (well that is the purpose of user testing isn't it Dave?) When David originally spoke to me about the idea I thought of it as a "would be nice" rather than a "must have" (like the amplified aerial is) but since fitting it a couple of weeks ago it has proven to be most convenient. Cheers Rich...

Rich was my installer/tester. Several "tweaks" have been made so no cutting or soldering is required.

I hot wired the boot relaese button direct to the battery, so that the ignition does not have to be activated to open the boot. Cost.....nothing
