How strong is the boot??
Discussion
How much weight is a bag of gravel, 50kg? Three bags would be 150kg, so check the book for max vehicle weight as a starting point. If you, fuel, etc plus the gravel comes in below the max weight you should be OK. I think the structure will support this amount of weight because the weight will be evenly distributed. Just don't go 'hooning' with it in there.
Last time I bought sand gravel etc they came in 25kg bags I asked the builders merchant why and was told the 50kg bags could no longer be sold due to a new EU rule
the maximum bag size / carry load for a single person is 25kg (or something like that)

I would expect a piece of wood to do more harm than good, since the floor of the boot isn't exactly flat. The gravel bags will adapt to the shape of the boot anyway?
