I'm off to the states for 4 months and want to find a way to avoid selling my Griffith. Originally the plan was to finance the trip by selling my 'pride and joy' however somebody suggested I might be able to lease it or hire it out for the summer. Thus getting regular income and thus financing my trip. Has anybody tried this or even better does anybody want to lease a 5.2 litre Griff? ;-)

Cheers
Joe

Not wishing to put a downer on your plan, but this sounds like it's littered with pitfalls e.g.

- What happens with insurance? Do you get your own (probably astronomical) cover, or rely on someone else to keep it covered?
- What happens if something, possibly expensive, breaks while it's leased out? You'd also need to consider servicing and things like tyres etc.
- How happy would you be with someone else thrashing your pride and joy if you lease it to a stranger?
- If you lease it to a friend, you might put your friendship at risk if you have a dispute over how it's been treated etc.
- If you do everything officially i.e. correct paperwork etc., there's a risk that you might end up having to pay tax on any money that you make, although you may be able to offset everything against maintenance costs etc.
- If you didn't get legally correct paperwork you could be liable for things like speeding and parking fines, and could even have trouble getting the car back when you return.

On a more positive note.... um, no, sorry, can't think of anything.

Sorry again for being such a party pooper!

How about sticking it in storage for the period? Might cost £300 - £400 but it'll be well looked after, run on a regular basis etc.

I know I know I know. But look at it this way, if I don't it'll be sold!!

I'm trying to find a creative way of keeping the car whilst financing travelling the states for four months. I'm sure you know how it is, these TVR things can get under your skin...

Hi tpman,

I may have a solution, but would like to discuss it offline. Have tried sending you a mail, but couldn't get hold of your address from your profile. Could you send me a mail.
