Pops 'n' Bangs
Discussion
Had a drive in a friends 4.5 Cerbera this afternoon and the one thing that struck me, besides the STUPID acceleration, was the fact that everytime I took my foor off the accelerator the exhaust would pop and bang and even shoot flames now and gain..........why is this? is it something to do with unburnt fuel hitting the hot exhaust? how do you get your car to do this? de-cat i presume?
If you want it to spit flames you will need decat pipes and a sport exhaust, if you have decats and a normal exhaust the flmaes will not shoot out the back, in order to get the flames to shoot out the back you will need the sport axhaust so the flames will be directed throguh the pipe and they will show
correct me if im wrong......i think im going to use the im too tired excuse today

IIRC its something to do with the amount of valve overlap the AJP8 has. Unburnt fuel entering the exhaust and being ignited by the hot exhaust gasses from the next cycle of the engine.
I'll wait patiently to be corrected
BTW, My decatted 4.5 pops, bangs and spits flames like a dragon...... ask anyone that's ever followed me.
I got sports pipes too, but MadMarks Cerb will spit flames and he has a standard exhaust. Only seems to when MrsMM is driving though.....

I know that this is a stupid question but presumably you need at least one cat to pass MOT emissions. How easy is it to replace the cat prior to the MOT being done?
As I recall it was about 40 minutes work to plonk them on (then off after) for the MOT this year, but I've heard of tactics to get them through without re-fitting them. You don't stricly need a cat to pass the MOT though I believe, but as TVR engines weren't really designed with much thought for emissions you need all the help you can get!
