I'm surprised that your front spoiler is catching a speed bump. The legal maximum height for a speed bump is 100mm (4") if you are hitting anything higher than this then you should take action against your Council or the Highway Authority in charge. I have an S2 and I thought I was pretty low at 6 1/2".
To answer your question on protection,I have put some about 1/4" thick sticky backed rubber strip, 2" wide, like Duck tape but heavier, this acts as a sacrificial cover and I replace whenever necessary, mainly when I have to open the bonnet.
Cheers
