Well, noticed last week that one of the pipes was loose and whilst driving back from the local exhaust centres it decided to disengage completely. Finally got it sorted yesterday (Kwik-fit, national tyres and exhaust and a few others have no welding equip, so had to find a local welder to do the job!). However the guy found a small hole and a six inch crack in the exhaust which he subsequently patched up. So looks like I'll need a new exhaust/backbox put in fairly soon.
The question is - do I get a standard backbox/exhaust put in or do I go for a sports exhaust (note that I've already had the decat done). Would this be taking things a bit too far - what do you think? Also anyone know the difference in costs for a standard and sports exhaust?
Cheers,
Dan

Hmmm from what I've heard a sports exhaust plus decat is a bit on the OTT side.
TMS have the standard exhaust listed at £605 inc. VAT - ouch! You should be able to get a sports exhaust for £3-400 easily. I'd suggest having a word with Joolz. He fits the JP exhaust but also has access to other types. I had a JP on my 97 4.2 (with cats) and it made a fantastic sound. Joolz does do silenced cat replacement pipes as well so maybe these in combination with sports pipes would be a good choice.

If your going to pay that, why not make your car more special and design your own system. I beleive that Magnex offer this service and also have pre made degigns. Their based in Derbyshire, don't know if thats near you, but thay have a website and i seem to remember they do mail order.

Warning warning be very careful who you choose to replace your exhaust system. I have a Griff 400 and my exhaust needed to be replaced and I was recomended a stainless steel specialist who was supposed to be the bee's nee's. So I was quoted just under £500 fitted inc vat so I booked it in, as it had been recomended with the first ,middle, and last instruction that it had better sound exactly the same when it came back as it did when I dropped it off. I even told the guy to drive a few miles so that he knew what I meant. But oh no it came back castrated, sounded ok on start up but as for the growl and thunder that I was used too I got silence. So I took it straight to my superb TVR specialist ( Peninsular ) with the instruction to rip off the crap that had just been fitted and replace with a stainless steel sports box and pipework. Guess what it sounds bloody wonderful. So in the end this little mistake cost me over £1000,
live and learn and the motto of this story, entrust you TVR with the experts.

Thanks for the replies,
Would be getting Hexham HC to fit the new exhaust, just wondered if anyone had gone down the decat/sports exhaust route (the fact that the sports exhausts seem to be cheaper makes it an even more attractive proposition). Will have a word with the dealer in question to see what my options are.
Cheers
