Right now then.... Hopefully my baby will be delivered next week... all being as it should be.

My car is not going to be garaged.... It'll be off road, right in front of my house. I've made provisions for various security items to be put in place, ie. locable security barriers, wheel clamp, car cover, plus putting up a fence with gates.

Is there anything else that you can recommend? Is it worth fitting a tracking device?

Also, I want to use the car as an everyday car.... is this a good idea?

Your help and assitance would be most appreciated

General concensus seems to be that the more you use them the better they are.

Sorry I didn't have a word with you on Sunday Dawn but you were a bit tied up with James
I use mine every day and it sits on the drive every night with no more security than a very good alarm
It used to be a weekend car and I would say it now runs better now it's used every day.
Just take it very easy until you get used to the increase in power from your Corsa

Mine lives outside too - car port and Covercraft cover. Standard alarm not clamps, steering wheel thingumies or locked gates etc. I use it pretty much every day and couldn't face a sort of Fort Knox unlocking routine every time I feel like going out. That way it would be a pain and a disincentive.

I've got a Tracker on mine because it was fitted when I got it. Not sure if I will renew in July.

By the way, they go much better with the roof off. You don't hear so many of the trivial (probably) rattles and bonks from the back end a low speeds over the bloody awful roads we have to put up with these days.

Have fun and go carefully.

FWIW Carport or a Leven half cover.

The carport is my project for this year. That'll keep the rain, snow, frost, b sh1t off it.

on a serious note... If I was going to add some extra security to my car (which sits on the drive under its cover), I'd go with a security light mounted to the house.. People don't like to mess about with cars at night under 400watts of Halogen Glow.. add to that a small home security camera mounted somewhere obvious and I'd be quite relaxed about the whole thing...

Cheers
Matt.

I've got a Tracker on mine because it was fitted when I got it, IMHO it is well worth it. Mine is a 24 hour monitor with guard and recover. I have set it off a few times and only manage to get a couple of hundred yards down the road before getting a phone call. I even got a phone call when I took the car from storage for the first time after a lay-up. Phone rang, and I was told that the car had moved after some time at the same place. Basically if it does not move for a long period of time it seems they put a guard on the car and when it moves next you get a call regardless.

All just adds piece of mind.

My Uncle is Ex – MET (including time in traffic) and he seems to thing they are good system

Good point M@H I'd almost forgot about that, we've got a nice bright security light which is trigered as soon as you step on the drive (which was fun setting up at the top of ladder on a windy day) and my alarm has a proximity sensor which gives off a loud screech as soon as you get anywhere near it

I don't think car teefs would bother with a TVR as they couldn't work out how to get in it. They also couldn't hear the acid funk junk from the stereo coz of the dammed racket the motor makes. I love TVRs....

I used to fit trackers at HHC, some of the installs I saw done at other garages were bloody awful - like no attempt to hide them and wiring that was a hazard. Also would you really want your car recovered after some scrote had revved the bits off it before being caught by the Police? I certainly wouldn't.
The other thing I have against them is that there's no warning stickers to tell it's got Tracker fitted, so where's the deterrent? .. in short it's there so the Police can catch crims in the act of driving your car, it isn't there to stop your car getting taken in the first place - it's a Police tool not an owner tool.
The best security is deterrent based .. lots of security lighting is a good idea, the camera prominently placed also good. Get something like a lockable post in the driveway and padlock those new gates you've wisely had fitted.
I'd much rather deter a scrote from even going near my car than have it stolen and recovered ...

Woohoo! Yopu got it then..

I've an alarm and immobiliser; (2 different units as fitted at different times) seems to have been ok so far :rapidlytouchesbigbitofwood:

Locking wheel nuts are a good idea, but not sure who might be after wheels like yours, (mine being from a Ford are easy game unformtunately).

I don't really want to go through a massive routine to unlock everything each time I go anywhere near the car but had considered a steering lock..

Weather wise, Thompson's water seal seems to do what it says on the can. Mine lives outside, no car port or cover and doesn't leak a drop. :wheresthatwood?:

Its used pretty well every day and I'm still grinning

Seriously though, take it steady for a while. There is a hell of a power difference between your old car and this one.

Oh, and the lid is designed to fit in its rightful place in the boot. Car's far better like that..

TVRpotty, does the imminent arrival of a Tiv herald the departure of your other half, or did he see sense?

just a point to note re the half cover, I used to use one till I found the wind was causing it to move and this left rub marks on the paint

A Full cover with a decent cable or strap underneath is the business. Covercraft do some fantastic ones for ourdoors and they can keep the car clean as well.

I'm assumed this is already fitted, but no-ones mentioned it yet, so... I'd say the number one spot has to go to a top notch Thatcham approved electronic immobiliser.

Since the biggest worry has to be someone actually making off with your pride and joy, an immobiliser's essential. It'll also offer protection wherever you're parked, isn't too invasive for everyday use, and should automatically arm itself every time you switch off.

The tracker also seems like a good bet; I have a vague recollection of hearing about one of the monitored services which can now progressively bring the car to a stop; might be worth checking out.

Incidentally, congrats on the impending arrival. You just can't beat TVR ownership, especially when you get that roof off... you'll love it!
